Re: The Candy Store

Big BUMP - anyone? Also - Is it 'safe' as a 'somewhat naive' tourist to head up to Riverside Park and walk that area ? It was a few years ago when I walked it, from 72nd to 104th Streets. Right around 100th Street is where the Warriors ran from the Baseball Furies. You'll also see the conclave area...

Re: Anyone seen Boardwalk, a 1979 American drama?

You had HBO back in 79-80? They only broadcast for 9 hours a a day back then, and were still known as Home Box Office ! Yes we did, here in Nowhere, Minnesota. The best thing about Home Box Office was the obscure film shorts they'd sometimes show between films, or "Video Jukebox", where they'd play...

Re: Anyone seen Boardwalk, a 1979 American drama?

Great flick, and highly underrated. I remember HBO used to air this movie all the time around 1979-80. I was around 9 years old when I saw it, and was kind of scared of the gangs that harrassed the elderly people in this movie. But scared in a good way, the kind that made you want to watch it and se...

Re: Classic Literature

I've read Lord of the flies a few times, one of my favorites and the movies are good too. I like the movies too. I think the original 1963 film is better than the 1990 version. However, the 1963 version is only available on DVD through the Criterion Collection, and that's more than I usually spend ...

Classic Literature

How many of you enjoy classic literature? I've been reading a lot of the classics lately that I blew off in high school, and have found just why they are considered classics. Here's a list of some of what I've read, and I encourage others to add to this list (and by the way, Harry Potter, Twilight, ...

Re: Outsiders and Sequels

I'm starting to read Rumble Fish by S.E. Hinton, it seems like a good book. Hopefully it isn't as short as That Was Then....This is Now. I was going to choose Tex but decided not to, does anyone know if that's a good book to read ? Tex is a good book, and takes place LONG after TWTTIN. Mark is a ch...

Re: Does anyone get the hint that the Lizzies are lesbians?

cro-magnon girl that gets it w/ a chair was defo a dizzy dyke. That was "Jo" from "The Facts of Life", before she got sent to a boarding school. That said, I think the Lizzies were at least affiliated with The Punks, perhaps called to wait for The Warriors at Union Square and stall them until the P...

Re: I am much too young to feel this old.

This made me feel old: I am the president of a photography club. Last week we had a meeting, and were trying to figure out how to attract younger members with an interest in photography. I mentioned there was no photography club in high school, at least when I was there, but mentioned I had graduate...

41 here. 35 when I joined the site. 15 when I first saw the movie - on VHS, since it had never played here and I hadn't even heard of it until I found it in a video store that carried everything but blockbusters - meaning the mostly obscure greats!

Any of you in the NYC Cancer Walk 10/23/11?

I was in NYC Oct. 21-24. On Sunday, Oct. 23, I walked across the Brooklyn Bridge into Manhattan at the same time a cancer walk was going on. Someone was wearing a Warriors jacket - black denim, I think, but it had the Warriors logo on the back. He was black, maybe around 20 years old, and with a gro...
