Yep, over here, a stiletto knife is a long blade and usually double sided edge.

Re: Swan's Knife
When I was a teen, both type were refered to as flick knives. I have one of the otf type and they're rubbish. The mechanism goes faulty after a short while and the blade doesn't fully extend. Also if you try to stab anything with it, the blade unhooks from the spring and becomes loose, making it useless.turnbull gbr wrote:Ninth Do you know the answer to the Flick knife/Switchblade puzzle?Ninth Delegate wrote:Yep, over here, a stiletto knife is a long blade and usually double sided edge.
They had already been banned when I was a kid. We used to convert the flick combs and put a couple of razor blades in them. I had a fun childhood.

and don't even think of holding the handle of the otf against a, um, target, and then releasing the mechanism
It simply does not have enough force to penetrate anything...

I've got one of each type and the one like swans is a lot better, feels a lot more heavy duty, although the other can stab stuff without unhooking it sometimes fails to come out.Ninth Delegate wrote:When I was a teen, both type were refered to as flick knives. And yes 4nik8 i've held it against my leg and pressed it and it didn't really do much stabbing.

Re: Swan's Knife
And then there is the wonderful "Flying Dutchman". That's like a stiletto, where the blade shoots straight
forward from the handle. Except with this type, the blade leaves the handle and becomes a short range
projectile. I would imagine a well-crafted one with a proper spring could stick that blade into it's target
at 10 paces perhaps. Maybe into Luther's wrist at the end?

Re: Swan's Knife
Ya, 'ballistic knives' are extremely rare, and highly illegal. Still, I would love to own a good one, just
for the uniquness of it. If you ever did find one tho, just remember how dangerous they are! (to the
user/loader more than anything!)

Re: Swan's Knife
I would be a regular viewer of America's Funniest Ballistic Knife Bloopers, were such a show produced...
