I reckon he wears the glasses to hide the make up on his eyes from the other gang members, and the reflective type of glass allows him to check his look in them every so often....

He does wear them at night and that's even before the song "I Wear My Sunglasses at Night" came out. I would like to see what he looks like them without the shades, but I think that is just another example of the detail Walter Hill and Larry Gordon went to make this movie as good as it is.

Well they are big shades. Maybe he had a lazy eye or something and the crew told him to wear them, hehehe

Or maybe when you see him pull the shades off, all you see is the white of his eyeballs? (remember that inmate, Schwarzenegger was talking to, in Red Heat?)
