An underrated scene in the movie i feel is when the Warriors have just beaten the Baseball furies and you seen the looks of respect between Ajax and Swan. Very cool scene
If you scroll down to (Poll) Ajax and Swan thread
You will find alot of the same opinions.
I always thought they had a healthy respect for each other's abilities-Ajax just tends to have a little more ego about leading, but I don't really think he was or ever would be a leader--much too self centered--and the rest of the guys knew it too. Just because they are very different, doesn't mean they don't know what the other one is capable of--and that usually leads to respect in one form or another-even if they don't get along on alot of subjects.
Besides Swan, I think Snowball and Rembrandt are the only 2 other Warriors that look like they could be a leader. Cowboy and Fox seem too dependent on the others and Ajax Vermin and Cochise don't use enough common sense. Rembrandt showed his leadership skills by observing the Lizzies and he was the 1 who mentioned that it wasn't a good idea to go in the first place. Snowball makes a good leader because he was the first 1 to acknowledge that fact that the truce might be off.
We're going in there like everybody else nine guys no weapons
I always thought that while Rembrant might be smart enough, I don't think any of the guys would actually follow him anywhere--I don't really see him as a leader, more as a second advisor type.
Snowball--definately leader material there!! He always conducted himself as a leader type too--confident, capable--I could see him taking over if anything had happened to Swan, or even if Swan would have faltered in any way, and I think the gang would have followed him too just as easily as they did Cleon or Swan. I always looked at him as the war chief, 2nd in command when Swan took over as leader for the late Cleon.
Yes, right after the Furries scene I think the look and smile Swan gives Ajax showed, though brief, an all new respect for one another, but maybe more so on Ajax's part towards Swan. I'm sure Swan knew well just how dangerous and tough Ajax was, hence him being a Warrioir after all. Still, I think the look Ajax gives to Swan right after Swan swings the bat in a circle after hitting the last Furrie speaks volumes. Next time you watch just look at Ajax's face - he almost looks like he's resigned to the fact that Swan is the born leader of the group.
Also, when Swan tells Ajax he isn't very smart for going back to the police woman Ajax's response was a very snide "I'll tell you something...Warlord..." which again seems like "yes, you're the recognized leader now, but screw you...I'll do what I want anyway."
Further, when Ajax is hit by the cop in the gut, he almost sounds like he's crying when he calles the cop a "fucking wimp", hence knowing he made a major mistake in not listening to the "Warlord" and following them. I think it would be cool to think that Ajax finally realized who the real man to lead the gang was at that point, though far too late.
I always thougth that look b'twn Swan and Ajax was Ajax non-verbally sayin' "see, I should be War Lord. We'd still be running from those wimps if it weren't for me".
It is a cool moment in the film. I can dig it. 8)
Also, what led me to believe that Swan would be a decent War Lord early on in the film was when they got on the trains. After the conclave meeting and after the run-in with the Orphans, watch Swan. You can see him doing a head count as everybody gets on. Natural leader, I say.

Swan...yes, very good leader. I don't think Ajax would be a good Warlord for the pure fact of the predicaments he seems to set for himself!
Imagine "F*ck these wimps Vermin...they've all gone faggot...we should ditch them and find some strange wool to hit on the way". OK, so meanwhile the cops have arrested half of them which leaves now...3 or 4 who would probably get wrecked by any gang that comes along seeing as there aren't alot of them and the fact that two of the best muscle have gone looking for chicks i.e. supposed Warlord=Ajax.
So all in all... Swan's the best leader after Cleon goes...although I think Snow or The Fox would make good leaders as well. Both street smart. (I surprise myself sometimes) Ha ha...
I think Swan and Ajax have respect for esch other, they both know each other well, the fact that Ajax gets way in over his head... also I would like to point out that Ajax comes running in the train with Mercy, only for Swan to take her off of him... sort of "Girl mine...I am alpha male" and the look on Ajax's face makes it clear that he understands that...

Respect? i dont think they had much respect against each other. They were about to fight each other in the graveyard, and ajax desobeyed swan and went with the cop lady. I think the little respect ajax had was with cleon, as we can see his dissapointed face when cleon gets angry with him in the deleted scene at the begening of the movie(coney island, daylight), and also when cleon tells him to just soldier, and keep his mouth shout. I think ajax just needed time to accept swan as the new warlord, and he was a little bit jealous he didnt get picked to be warlord. And the look they give each other in the end of the fight of the baseball furies, i think that look is more of a *no sweat, we beat all those wimps down* rather than a respectful look.

I see your point warlord jp, but I think that the fight between Swan and Ajax that could have taken place would not be so much a thing of hate between them, but more of a tradition, tribe-like thing. IMO the looka fter the furies fight is a look of respect a kind of "we can have disagreements, but we always beack each other up" type of thing.
Also in the deleted scenes when Swan hears that Ajax has been arrested there is a definate look of sadness and loss on his face. Probably regretting his last words to Ajax ("You enver were very smart").
I think the way they looked at each other was respect as ^He said befor. Ajax probley thought
that swan couldnt fight worth nothing. And Swan knows that ajax has a mind of a
pervert. And that ajax only wants one thing "Sex" so when swan wrecked the furie one of
the heaveyest sets in ny he knew that swan might know how to fight. And swan might know
that ajax might only know two things "Fighting Good" And "Sex"

Hey so were we![/color]
Another topic with some great posts. I always felt it was a look of "yeah, we have our differences, but we make a hell of a team." I wouldn't say respect, but maybe disgruntled acceptance of the fact that Swan is a solid Warchief.
"I want them alive if possible, if not - wasted. But I want them."
Well, when one comes to realize that a rivalry has been going on for such a long time, eventually you come to know the person like the back of your hand. It than becomes inevitable for the two enemies to eventually work together. You may hate someone for so long, that you in some form or another start to respect them. I guess you can say, that it becomes a love hate relationship. I am not saying that these two will become the best of friends, but who knows the journeys that these men have gone through together. Maybe in the past, Ajax and Swan had a heated rivalry, and were on the edge of killing each other. Than one day, they got into a predicament were they had to save each others lives, and after a while knew the type of person that each one really was. So that hate will always be there, but maybe it was that one significant day that bad these men of some sort of spark inside, that gives them respect. After all, when you are rolling with the warriors, you must learn that. What respect really is.
Personally i thought the look that Ajax gave to Swan was on of dissapointment that Swan never got bashed up and there for finally proving he (Ajax) was right when he said "I'll bet you can't even find the subway"
