Curious as to how the Guest got to thinking that all the Warriors were Latino in the book?
Now me, as I stated here once before, I don't care about the book, and I have never read it, I enjoy the film on it's own merits. But it is the understandig of most Warriors fans that the author had his book Warriors be black.
Now the movie, why does it suck that the white guy takes over when the black guy (Cleon) is wasted? The bottom line is, the leader of the Warriors was black, until he did indeed get wasted. Then Swan, a white guy, CLEON'S CHOICE, took over, only when Cleon was out for the count. But he didn't "take over" per se, like he forced his way to be Warlord. He was chosen by Cleon beforehand.

Movies based on books, RARELY stay true to the book. One of the reasons we enjoy movies is because they entertain and get us away from the "real world" for a couple of hours and its racism. I'm glad the film wasn't strictly all black gangs, or Latino gangs....that would've only fed negative stereotypes and myths about these two cultures who already receive a lot of negative press, whether they are apart of gangs or not. In the "real world," blacks, Latinos, Caucasians, etc., you name the race.........each of them have good traits and bad traits. No one race has the monopoly on being Saints or Devils, even though the media would have you to believe one is better then the others. I think it was most appropriate to mix the gang.
Are you just gonna let any army walk in any time they feel like it? Pretty soon every gang is just gonna boogie right in, soldier right through.

Personally I am just happy the movie was made, and that the movie has endured, and that Here we are talking about what the gang should have looked like..

You guys have no idea how drunk I was when I posted that STUPID post. God, I feel so sheepish. I guess I was just trying to get people's attention. What holds as some true, though, is the fact that some of the characters do have Hispanic backgrounds (ie.: Ismael Rivera=Cyrus) and other Characters as well. Yurick contradicts himself when he says that he only included "Black" characters (I guess he meant African American). Why the Hispanic last names then?
Anyhow, we all make mistakes. I apologize for being a jerk in that post.
Cheers!

Well for being drunk---you certainly know how to get a conversation going L.
LOL
Actually if you read the book close--the warriors/dominators are all Latinos--and their heritages are discussed with most of the character---some were dark like Lunkface, and some light like Rembrant---but I really don't think it made any difference about race as to the story we saw. the basic movie would not have changed regardless of how the gang was portrayed. And all the names were changed anyway between the script and the book. So it doesn't matter regardless. That is just how I see it anyway.

Agree. My real intentions were never meant to cause division among us all. The movie simply prooves that a mixed gang could get along when it came to defending their turf. Hey, I came to New York in 1981. Eventhough there were a lot of gangs of "pure" color which would not include Caucasians in their gangs, and vice versa, there were some which would include Asians with Mexicans, Puerto Rican with Cubans and Dominicans. In The Warriors you see some of this, example: A member just posted a pic of these guys who look really Caribbean to me, My point is that there are many interpretations to this great film. In fact, in this cool forum you even pose great questions which are beyond the film. Example: What's of Ajax after doing time. Hope you understand my lingo.Ranchgal wrote:Well for being drunk---you certainly know how to get a conversation going L.

Brother LATEM..The movie simply prooves that a mixed gang could get along when it came to defending their turf.
We all have a few drinks, Brother I completely Understand you,We all at times need to cool off,But Where you made plenty of sense was that quote.
Brother always know that,if you ever need a friend to talk to ,yo I GOT YA BACK!!! ,and your wife has you back even more,brother..What I learn the most from this movie was,"Life tends to bring you down,But the True WARRIOR,can overcome all of this, and RISE ABOVE IT.."AND I Quote Cleon,"And that makes you special"

Don't Think! Feel!..It is like finger pointing away to the moon..
Don't concentrate on the finger or else you will miss all of that heavenly glory...
