Just another thought:

Papa Arnold, who was the Cleon character in the book, survived the beating and made it back to Coney on his own.  Granted, I have not played the video game yet where it sounds like Cleon may have been killed before the police rounded up the slow and wounded in Van Courland Park.  I prefer to think he made it back to Coney later the next day after being released by the police, battered but wiser for the experience.

From a story perspective this was a great way to begin character development.  Had Cleon led them back from the Bronx we may not have gotten to "know" characters like Swan, Fox, Vermin, Cochise and Rembrandt the way the film allowed.  It would have been a more military-like retreat with Cleon, the wise leader, calling all of the shots and the others fulfilling their roles without any real controversy (Ajax), input (Swan, Fox, Rembrandt) or individual choice (Ajax, Vermin, Cochise).
This is a story of courage.

This is a story of war.

When I first watched the movie I remember seeing Cleon, and how I thought he looked like an interesting character.   It was really disappointing to see him killed off so suddenly.  I wasn't even entirely sure whether he was dead or not until the movie was over and I realized he never came back.  :doubt:

No Cleon part of dying quickly set the whole mood for the story. It got me excited and worried for the Warriros when i first seen it.

No offence or anything, because I am not trying to cause war with you, but isn't it kind of hard to say that "Cleon is so cool", considering that since he was killed so soon in the movie, his true personality remained a mystery? I mean, he probably was cool (though he's just a fictional character), but if you are saying that Cleon is cool from what you've seen from playing the game, then you have no idea if he was really cool or not, because that is just Rockstar's view of what Cleon was possibly like.

it would've been better if the fox got stomped out by the riffs, and cleon got tossed in front of the train.....but thats only if I made the movie.  :p
i don't feel that the fox had a very important role in the flick, he barely did much of anything.  atleast cleon would've been kicking butt and taking names until that particular point in the movie.
as far fas i'm concerned, the fox might as well take a spot next to mercy and rembrandt(sorry to all you fox lovers out there).

the script tell's a whole nother story, as far as "the fox" is concerned, big H!!!
i'm guessin "the fox's" limited actions in the movie, are due to "tom waites"walkin off the movie.

i know (LOL) i was the one who came up with the script, but it's been awhile since i read it!!
the fox make's it back, in the script, doesn't he??

and "Mercy" being unimportant???
anything, BUT unimportant!!!!!  ;)

i never read the script so i can't say but i do know he was originally suppose to be the lead male, but did he walk off?  or did he get the boot?  either way he still didn't do much of anything IMO, hence he can take a spot next to that whimp rembrandt(though wise) and mercy(shes a chick so she ain't trying to rumble).  perhaps in the original script he was a total badarse but what came on the silver screen was a far from that.
mercy on the otherhand was the lead female so of course she was important.....how else would they've run into the orphans, who also happen to be my favorite gang cause they suck so bad.   :p

would have been awesome if Cleon would have barley escaped, and the warriors had a showdown with furies in the graveyard after they escaped the meeting, so afterward they start running and just before they get out of the park Cleon is the last warrior to make it out of the graveyard and the furies throw a bat at cleons leg and cleon falls, and the furies beat him down and he is presumed dead, then the warriors make it to the turn bulls and then the movie goes on like normal but the end fight is due to Luther shooting Fox halfway through the movie so after Swan and the other warriors fight the rouges and beat them, after they walk down the beach, they walk into the hangout and Ajax and Cleon are waiting for them with beer, cleons all bruised up and Ajax has the lady cops clothes and the cop that smashes him, well he has his body

Stop trying to avoid it......He's Dead!!! I mean he was viciously elbowed to death by Riffs who were going to stop at nothing for revenge.

I dont think so. The producer wanted to make this movie more intresting by killing the warriors leader to show the riffs are really mad and now that they mean buissnes. This scene is one of my favorites too, and i wuold love to have seen cleon elbowed the furies and the punks in those fighting scenes, and would have also loved to see his leadership, how he commands the warriors, and how he takes them back to coney from the meeting. so what do you all think?

Cleon being killed is a necessary means to build the tension in the story.  He is a character that must be sacrificed to help gain the compassion of the audience towards the Warriors plight.  If there are no sacrifices by the heroes of the story then their victory doesn't seem as sweet at the end; Cleon's death, as well as Fox's and Ajax's arrest are needed to so the audience will have empathy for the rest of the Warriors and look past their flaws as delinquents and criminals to see what they have gained from their journey.

Well I feel as though the film would have been somewhat more organised if he had survived. Swan was strong and clever but you just know they would have all sticked together if Cleon was around - they would have all returned safe and before 6 in the morning.

But yeah would have been nice to see him kick some more......
