it's some of the comments made in this thread that kind of irk me the wrong way and led to my frustration in the first post.
people refer to this 'new way' as a good way to get the 'partimers' out of here. what's up with that? why can't we have partimers in here? why should we slam the door on them? that isn't fair. i think it's ridiculous when people say they miss the 'usual' way and they don't like all the new people in here. this is not a very welcoming place.
if your trying to prevent people from making excessive posts, then aren't these new people going to try to make excessive posts to get to 100? its impossible to prevent the few bad eggs that come along.
and earn your 'vest'? this is a forum where people talk about a movie they enjoy. nobody should have to impress anyone to talk with a bunch of people about a movie they like. put yourself in a new comers position. they come in here and they're kind of the odd man out. that's not welcoming at all. how can you not feel as though your inferior? it's stupid. why do they not deserve equal respect?

well by part timers i was referring to certain people posting silly things in certain topics where there were serious discussions going on and they would reply things that had nothing to do with the topic ,CLEARLY to get their post count up,this is clearly an abuse of the forum ,i did not mean to offend anyone or single anyone out, like you wolverine im a newbie and love the movie THATS ALL ,i couldnt be bothered getting into internet arguments ....just my 2 cents

Why don't people reserve equal respect? Because sometimes, you gotta prove yourself, show that you're better than the moronic idiots and, likewise, idiotic morons. Also jerks. Try marching down to McDonalds and DEMAND you be hired as the manager.
Though I don't think number of posts is the solution here.

Fair isn't always equal and equal isn't always fair, such is the real world.
The site is privately run, and he who pays the bills sets the rules!!-- all new comers are welcome, but how seriously they are taken depends on the contents of the posts. People who participate, and enjoy the discussions aren't put down in the forum, and people look for intelligent posters, especially if they don't start major arguments or get personal about attacking someone. Everyone here was new not too long ago.
Rotten apples spoil barrels every day--why exactly do you think this would be different?? the "good" ones, if they are good, will stay around and enjoy the forum and participate with the rest of us---so exactly where is your problem??
People have to prove themselves every day in most every situation---part of life. And sometimes having discussions about a movie where everyone has to prove themselves, or end up wasted---the emotion just carries over.LOL

this is about feedback, and i'm simply posting what i think, and i don't think people should have to come in and prove themselves in a forum when they just want to talk about a movie they enjoy.....comparing it to the 'ways of life' is a little dramatic. it's a forum.
new comers are going to come in here and probably head right back out
because it's not very welcoming. i feel like the 'old group' who has been her a while feel as though they are superior towards everyone else and are trying to push the new comers out. that's what the new set-up feels like to me. if i were the owner of the site, i'd want my site to grow as big as possible.

would you want all the crappy posters we had for so long? when the game came out we had so much junk it was making it hard for ANYONE on this board.....we are all seeing in this board whos gonna be great posters to come and who will not be.....i think your taking this wrong. and im gonna tell you what many have heard in the past.....
if you really dont like it you can always make your own site and forum.....we hope you dont, we like everyone here. but as far as proving youself, eh take it how you want, i guess its like that....but i mean even the "old group" post in this proving ground....so whats the diffrence? really no ones been posting in the other board were all the old timers post everyones here....seems your taking the whole thing to personal.....we all love this board for MORE reasons the warriors......its more then that, its more then a movie board for us, we are our own place, where its safe for everyone to be on the net....and thats why we see it as a reason that people shoukd "prove" themself to be here....we wanna know your gonna care about this place like the "old guys" do....hope this helps you understand

The only reason there are good things around is because there are standards, like this forum. We all want to keep it a great place, but unfortunately that means upholding the things that made this place what it is which includes some restrictions, on everybody. It was O.K. when it first started cause there wasn't alot of us and we didn't discuss as much as we do now. But then the bandwidth kept expiring and then no one could post anything. Nows there's more people who post, but the forum space is still the same so everyone has to make room, new bloods and the "vets".

I hate saying this, but if you're not paying, and you're doing nothing but complaining, then you're free. You're free to leave at any time. Nobody's forcing you to stay here.
And by the way, repeating your point constantly, in response to anything thrown your way, does not an argument make.
It ain't a way of life... but it's a place full of good friends.
We were all newcomers, too... obviously, we stayed. We aren't trying to push new-comers out. No matter where I go, that's what people accuse me of. I'm tired of it. We only push out idiots, and we don't like fools who sign up just for the game, no passion whatsoever, who just sit there and speak like "lol teh movie wuz ghey ;( ajax = awesome but teh gaem needed more guns", or make three-page posts, or, hey, did you see that dude who's entire postcount was just him making like 50 posts, each saying "lol" or "cool?"
How about that dude with the wallpaper-sized avatar?
Ooh, let's not forget that one guy who posted like 5 times in a row in very post-mortem topics, with nothing useful or meaningful in the least to add to conversation.
Where I come from, they'd all have been banned already.
But the 'chief gave them a second chance before banning those suckas. You know what? He's a nice guy, he really is. He's only doing what he think's best, and he's paying out the arse for this forum. He's trying to keep up with what everyone wants, and although I could suggest he do a few things better, he's busy. And if all you're gonna do is complain about his proposed methods to make the nigh-irrepairably damaged post quality, while he's paying for you, the noobs, and all of us to be on here, you're still free to leave.

People trying to boost their post counts jump in with one liners in disscussions like "Right. I think so too." It shouldn't be the quantity of posts it should be the quality. And arguing points like "no I think Ajax was a better character than Swan, you A-hole!" is just lame. But some people use the anonymity of the web to call people names and act like jerks.
Problem is too that there are a lot of interesting and thought provoking topics here that people are looking to discuss and wanting comments on. If I should only make 5 posts a day guess I'll have to be real selective.

Also, yeah, I always thought the post limit was a bit lame... I speak as a respected member here, 'Chief, any chance we can reach a bit o' negotiation on that?

You're right that you can't prevent some bad eggs, but what can be done is for fail safes to be put in place to prevent or lessen the amount of bad eggs and/or their impact. As for your point that a post number requirement only makes people post more, I totally disagree. Your example is how it's not to be done and why we have Mods to weed out those type of people. When they see a newbie's post count rising too quickly, the Mods can delete some posts as a warning and/or ban them if/when they don't comply.Wolverine wrote:if your trying to prevent people from making excessive posts, then aren't these new people going to try to make excessive posts to get to 100? its impossible to prevent the few bad eggs that come along.
I started posting on this board in March of this year and only just got to 100+ at the beginning of this month. While I know that I am more the exception than the rule, it is a good example of how people *should* post. I only post when/if I had a comment to make that hadn't already been made or something of the like. Posting things like "Yeah...I think Ajax is the toughest" just makes you look ignorant and tends to lead to others not respecting one as a poster.
Why not? Don't you want to make sure that you're conversing with same or similar intelligent people? There's nothing worse on a message board than to have a well thought out theory/idea/concept/argument/etc. and to type it all out only for a bunch of lame brained people to not understand it or whatever. It turns out to be a total waste of one's time. For that reason, we are looking for the best people that can be assets to the discussions.and earn your 'vest'? this is a forum where people talk about a movie they enjoy. nobody should have to impress anyone to talk with a bunch of people about a movie they like. put yourself in a new comers position. they come in here and they're kind of the odd man out. that's not welcoming at all. how can you not feel as though your inferior? it's stupid. why do they not deserve equal respect?
As for putting yourself in the new comer's shoes, I was there and gained whatever respect I have around here by making quality posts and not just drooling all over the keyboard. Listen, pretty much all of us love the movie. It's just that there are some people out there that as qualified to discuss it as others. We are looking for those that are qualified...
A low post count and respect have nothing in to do with each other. We all started out with 0 posts and have worked our way up the ladder. I know I don't think any less of someone that has less posts than me. What causes me to think less of them are posts like "Yeah...I think Ajax is the toughest" and unfortunately, sometimes those posts are done by people with much higher post counts than I...
