How Long?

So I was thinking. Do any of you ever wonder how long the warriors have been formed up until the point of the legendary conclave. Sometimes I think its boring when some people think they were rookies that were only formed for about a year. I personally like to think that they were formed for quite a few years. The reason I say this is because although they were in truth more like underdogs, theres really no telling what kind of adventures they have been on. Who knows perhaps the conclave was not their only legendary story. Perhaps they had other meaningful and journeys that met their faith. I honestly think that their destinys met other inevitable challenges and obstacles. Maybe they had significant reasons for joining and forming the gang, that uniquly describes who they are as people, and where they come from. Maybe they have a special place on this earth. So how long do you think they were all united? Any opinions?

They might have been an existing gang for a few years...even if they had started about a year or two before the Conclave I think they might have started strong! But I really feel that they were around for more than 2 years...there were more men in the gang then in the neighborhood...a lot of guys wanted to be part of The Warriors...as for the 9 guys...a few started off since the beginning...while others slowly came in as time went by...

so you mean the ones tht slowly came in for example rembrandt rose up in the ranks because they had their own talent example he was an artist

i don't think that Rembrandt was one of the last few...but instead was actually one of the first few...they not only valued his artistic talent...but they knew he was strong at heart...eventhough he was a little guy...he was a little giant...
the last few might have come in last because they either they just moved to the neighborhood or they weren't sure what the gang life would bring them...whether it would change their lives or not...they were tired of their parents or people they lived with...maybe some wanted to change or toughen up their manhood...

One thing to remember is that they're all quite young, it's a juvenile street gang and even the senior members would be late teens/early 20's. One possibility is that these Warriors are not the guys who started the gang (let's forget about what the game says) and that the Warriors could have been an established gang. Guys like Cleon and Swan could have started off as junior members themselves, mentored by older members then proved themselves over time and as those older members leave or drop out for whatever reason, they take over leadership of the gang, they're now the veterans.
There's a line in the original script which suggests that the Warriors have existed as a gang for at least a year before the meeting. There is a scene in the beginning when they run into a local rival gang called the Mongols and one of them mentions that the Warriors "lost a brother to them last year". Since it's a scene which never made the final cut,we have no way of telling how real this is, but I think it's interesting.

I think a couple of years, but since they were making a name for themselves they got invited to the conclave.

Thanks for the feed back everyone. You all made some excellent points. The reason I thought of this topic, was because I figured that to get where they were they already had to have their fair share of adventures and journeys to make it up to the point in which they were in. Thus indicating that they had to be toghether for sometime already. And also comes to the part of picking that certain 9 for the conclave. Take the point of Rembrandt for example, yes he may seemed very vulnerable at certain aspects of the film, but who knows what he did in the past to get to his spot, and the main reasons of assembling the gang.

Well at an estimate about 3 or so years, they all seemed like they had battle practise and that doesn't come instantly.

The video game has the whole backstory. But it is cool just to speculate.

Yeah, but I don't think the movie Warriors "come from" another gang!!!
To me, The Warriors have always ruled Coney... 3, 4, 5... years... it doesn't matter!!!
Maybe Cleon was not the first War Lord, ok, but The Warriors have always been there!!! 8)

I do quite like the idea that the game had with Cleon and Vermin breaking off from another gang to form their own and eventually taking over Coney but I don't believe it happened as quickly as the game was making out.
I think that Cleon and Vermin broke away from the Destroyers and they formed the Warriors with the Destroyers not taking much notice of them. So over a few years they built up their numbers and muscle until they were a force that the Destroyers had to take seriously but in the end didn't and that was their downfall allowing The Warriors to take Coney as their turf. Then a few years after that the conclave happens.
So basically same lines as the game but on a longer time scale!
