Should the Riffs have wasted the Warriors?

(I apologize if this has been covered before, but I can only sort through so many threads.)
I personally think the Riffs had ample reason to waste the Warriors on the beach at the end. When the newly-crowned head Riff observes that the Warriors are good, real good, Swan responds, "The best." That sounds like a challenge. The Riffs showed a lot of restraint by not saying, "No. I said you were good. We're the best. We're the freakin' Riffs. You think you're better than us? You guys are dead, real dead."
Taking care of the Rogues wouldn't have taken much time or energy. The Riffs certainly could have handled the Warriors, and they would have been well within their rights to do so under the 1979 New York City Street Gang Rules of Engagement.
Besides, the Riffs traveled all that way to Coney. It would be a shame not to waste as many heads as possible.

The Riffs have no reason to waste The Warriors since they are on The Riffs network of gangs. Besides, it is all about respect and The Riffs wasting the Warriors would have been no more productive than Luther wasting Cyrus.

Yeah, and besides it was The Warriors home turf. Major disrespect : ( . Besides, i think the over-kill of the Rogues satisfied there revenge.

Yeah, about E-man's satisfaction theory, there probably wasn't enough left of the Rogues to fill two Chinese takeout boxes, I'd say they were probably satisfied enough by that.
Luther Lo-mein, anyone?

The Riffs had caused a night of hell for the Warriors and beaten there leader to death for listening to Luthers word.
I think they probably thought Swan was right when you consider they made it back with every gang after them.

The riffs knew that what the warriors did commands respect. I reckon if anything the warriors would've kicked off if the numbers were fairer. Get off our beach.

I think that you sound like you are confusing MOST with BEST!
The Riffs may be the biggest gang in the city as far as numbers go, but you didn't see them out hunting the WArriors on a one to one basis ! They sent everyone else first---until they figured every thing out. Cause when they found out the truth and it was the Rouges--THEY did go hunting man for man plus.
I think they realized that man for man--the Warriors just may be the best, and after the night they had had---the Riffs were right to NOT get involved with the home gang. Besides, they didn't have any real reason to waste the Warriors, they were after revenge--and that could only be had on the REAL killers of Cyrus.

yeah case closed......though I have to add to it and say that the warriors had less then the original nine at that moment, and if the 'challenge' had come up then they would have been somewhat swamped with Riffs.

I agree-IF there would have been a fight, the Warriors would have been killed-unless alot more of them sudden sprang up out of the wonder wheel or the boardwalk!
But I do love your last sentence!! I am going to be giggling all day with the visual of them being "somewhat swamped" with or without Riffs. LOL
I love that phrase, I think it should be in poem somewhere or something as a catch phrase. May have to think on that. Thank You!

while we're on this subject, i have to say that the end scene when the riffs appear, i think is ridiculous. i have to laugh everytime i see that part. think about it, the riffs, these really tough martial arts fighters turn up with.........hockey sticks!???? if i was down on the beach and saw that coming over the hill, i'd have been LMAO, hey guys, it's the harlem hockey team!!! i don't know, i just think that they could have made the riffs look a little less silly. IMHO

lol yeah, hockey sticks are kinda lame.
on the subject of Riff Lameness.
When they waste Cleon, what's with the In-Sync-Elbows?
Not very gang like, just ask SHM.

Riffs v Warriors

I still say they shoulda wasted 'em!
Besides, if by their silence the Riffs are agreeing, or at least not disagreeing, that the Warriors are indeed "the best," shouldn't the Riffs have realized that the Warriors would ultimately pose a threat sometime in the future? Why not waste them now, since you're already there and the Warriors are weakened by the previous night's trials? Why wait for the Warriors to regroup, grow in strength and number, and return to take on the Riffs at a time of their choosing?
I suppose the most likely explanation is that since the Riffs spend most of their lives in their underground bunker, the Coney Island sun is hurting them, particularly the head Riff who even in the dark has to wear sunglasses all the time.
Or maybe they had a hockey game to get to.

I'm pretty sure that a gang from Coney and a gang from Gramecy would have no reason to fight as they are miles apart and don't have anything to fight about in the future?
Why have enemies when you can have allies!
