Ok first I just want to say I hate people always playing the race card as they say,but I just wanted to throw this out there because its something I always wondered about. Was there anything intentional
on the writers part regarding the leader of an all black gang being assasinated by the leader of an all white gang. There was never any mention of race by anyone in the movie, and most of the gangs in the movie were bi-racial ( however unrealistic that may be),And Luthers true motivations were never
made clear.Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Apart from the studio execs stopping walter hill from having an all black cast for the warriors gang, there wasn't any racial undertones in the movie as they wanted to make it to appeal to as much mainstream audience as possible.

Its source material in the book is a different matter.  It makes out that its racial hatred that makes the conclave a big fail.  The neo nazi's hated the cyrus character (ismael) because he wasn't white and the black gangs disliked him because he was Puerto Rican.  Thats why he was shot.
If I remember right, I think the equivilent of the Ophans in the book were all immigrants.
The book was released in the mid 60's, so the racial hatred was a topical subject back then.  Thankfully, we've moved on from then.
