NYC vs. LA
So...
To me, New York City ( Yes I have been there twice, by no means an expert, but I have
soaked up the flavor a bit ) is the filter of old world Europe, and now the rest of the world
from that entry point. Immigrants coming from Europe back in the day came thru NYC.
It is built in that old world European style. A bit smallish and claustrophopic. Also the
land mass is not as spread out as the west.
I am born and raised in LA. It is spread out and you would be a tard to try and get around
without a car. I view NYC and LA as very different twins in some ways, and very simular
in other, more fundamental ways.
What is my freaking point, you ask? I just wonder what if 'The Warriors' had been set in LA
instead of NYC? NO subways, no really dense urban areas ( except for downtown ). It
would have had a whole different feel to it. You would have had The Warriors bopping their
way back along Sunset Blvd in Hollywood, and Hawthorne and Crenshaw. Who Knows?
I am glad it was set in NYC tho. That is a perfect setting for that time period and subject.
Back in 79', people really wondered what the hell was going on. Youngsters today may
not be aware of Vietnam and Patty Hearst and the Carter years and all that. People
wondered WTF was going on, you know? Like, 'Escape from NY' was a valid speculation
into the near future at that time. 'The Warriors' was released in 79', and was a look into
a possible future reality in the next few years! People were wondering, you know?
Now we KNOW that the future turned out bad. Back then, we were still somewhat
innocent.
Sorry, I know I am just all over the place here, and have strayed from the title of this
post. History just blows my mind tho. Recent or old. 'The Warriors' is more than just
a video game, it is a slice of American history.

Yes, this game was gonna be huge back in 78', but Pong took away everyone's attention.
Then Space Invaders came out, and forget about it.
Apologies for my stream of consciousness bag of hot air. Not so much a topic, as a rant.
( friends don't let friends drink and post )

Re: NYC vs. LA
well logically...
escape from new york = great film
escape from LA = bad film
ergo
warriors in NYC = best film ever made
warriors set in LA = sucks?

Ya, 'Escape from LA', jeez what a dud that was.
IF 'The Warriors' had been set in LA, They would have been the Santa Monica
Warriors, cuz it is a chill beach side area and also has a pier with a ferris wheel.
Cyrus would have been the big leader from Compton, and they would have had
to bop their way back from South-Central.

Re: NYC vs. LA
And anyone who's seen a film called East L.A Warriors, will attest to how bad it is.

Re: NYC vs. LA
THAT'S what this board was missing!
a lil East Coast / West Coast rivalry, resultant bloodshed, then a crisis intervention team, then forbidden love, and unspeakable tragedy, climaxing in a coming together for the greater good against nigh-insurmountable odds
eh, screw it, where's my chalupa...

Re: NYC vs. LA
If the original had been set in LA they would have probably just hot wired a car and drove straight home, so would'nt have made much of a movie.
Hold up, why didn't they just do that in the original version?

Who are The Warriors, there must be some word...
Re: NYC vs. LA
it just goes to show us that the setting is not even right. new york in the 70s was then, it can't be replaced, l.a. has no heart. in fact why are they even bothering with re-making this movie?
