Swan's Knife

Post by GrandTheftAaron »

Does anyone know what kind of knife Swan used in the final fight with the Rogues? I know that it's a switchblade, but is it any particular type/model?

(Sorry if there has been a thread about this already, but I didn't find anything on the search bar)

This could probably best be answered by "The Swan", as most of these types of blades came to the US from Italy, in the 1950s

Following typical public hysteria after movies like

Rebel Without a Cause
High School Confidential.
West Side Story
12 Angry Men

...we enacted the USA Switchblade Act of 1958, so any blades entering the country were likely black market, and, therefore, not identified by type and model

Fear not, however, as all switchblades I've seen greatly resemble the one used in the movie, so any are valid!

I thought Swan's knife was a flick knife? The blade flicks out from the side, and is manually put back in?
And a switch blade is the kind of knife with a switch that brings the blade out from the top of the handle, and the blade goes back in when you press the switch again.

Or do they have different names in America?

What you're referring to as a "flick knife" is what i've always heard called a switchblade (usually one word)

The prevailing research (at least those pages that don't get me the Forbidden Category: Weapons block on the company server) seems to be calling these OTFs (out the front), which just doesn't seem all the clever to me!

OTF, WTF! Just doesn't sound as cool as switchblade or flick knife.

Here in Brazil we call them Stiletto but I'm not sure if it's the model or the brand name.

I'D heard a knife being called a stiletto before but i never knew what type they were, i presumed it was a thin pointy one like the shoe heel.
