is Mercedes Ruehl the only award winner (best supporting actress oscar) from the original movie?

Hmmm, good question. A little research yields that both Michael Beck and
James Remar have been nominated for a few awards. Michael Beck was
nominated for 2 Razzie awards (worst actor: Xanadu, and worst supporting
actor: Megaforce). James Remar has been nominated for several Saturn awards
for his work on Dexter.

I was not able to find any awards won by Thomas G. Waites, but noticed he runs
an acting studio in New York. It looks like Deborah VV has won a Patte' award
along with the rest of the cast of a play she was in.

Surprisingly, all I could find on David Patrick Kelly was that he has won an Obie
award for "sustained excellence". This surprises me a little, as I see him as possibly
the best actor out of the bunch.

David Patrick Kelly also has a Connecticut critics award for outstanding performance "Tartuffe" hartford stage.

Yes, JR is certainly prolific enough. I think as a pure actor tho, DPK has the best chops.

Don't know much about stage acting but this could be like an equivalent to an Oscar!....Or maybe not.
