David Patrick Kelly & CBGB
I've seen some posts here that have mentioned CBGB for reason or another. In another case of a marginally interesting, if truly useless bit of trivia...David Patrick Kelly performed at CBGB in its seminal, mid-seventies heyday.
Kelly has credited an East Village/Lower East Side bum, who he probably met in his CBGB days, for providing him with the inspiration for "Warriors, come to play-ay!" The guy apparently used to tauntingly yell, "Daaavid...Daaaavid!" at him.
Several years ago, I had the good fortune of seeing David Patrick Kelly perform in Richard Foreman's "Pearls For Pigs," an off-Broadway play which Kelly headlined. Foreman is a much celebrated downtown, avant-garde playwright who happens to love using Kelly in leading roles in his plays. Kelly was as loud and boisterous as you would expect and John Turturro, who was also in the small audience, was quite visibly entertained. As New York-based actors of the same generation who have also worked with the some of the same people (Spike Lee jumps to mind), they are probably friends or atleast acquaintances.

David wore a CBGB black sweatshirt in one of the featurettes on the DVD. 8)CleonsChoice wrote:I've seen some posts here that have mentioned CBGB for reason or another. Re: David Patrick Kelly & CBGB
Just been clearing a box of crap out and found David Patrick Kelly's CV and Profile photo. A few years back when i bought my first mezco figure i got sent this with it. The person i bought the figure from said he was a courier and he'd stolen the CV off a desk at a talent agency in New york.
Totally forgot i'd got this.

CBGB is an old(and I guess now defunct?) NYC punk club notorious since the early 70's
I would imagine. I think it was located in The Bowery. Alot of really legendary bands
got their starts there, like The Velvet Underground and The Talking Heads. (If you
don't know who those bands are, then we are done here and NM).

315 Bowery, to be exactSuburban Warlord wrote: I think it was located in The Bowery.
Minor yet funny point – The Velvet Underground formed in 1965, and were largely done by 1973, the year CBGB opened, but, don't forget bands like: The Ramones, Misfits, Television, the Patti Smith Group, Mink DeVille, The Dead Boys, The Dictators, The Fleshtones, The Voidoids, The Cramps, and Blondie!Suburban Warlord wrote: Alot of really legendary bands got their starts there, like The Velvet Underground and The Talking Heads.

Oh, and most importantly (hence, a new post!), it is believed that The Lizzies' building is directly across the street from CBGB.

Re: David Patrick Kelly & CBGB
What about the New York Dolls? Ya, all good, old bands you named there. Thanks
for filling in all the info! MMMM...to me NM is never mind. Ya, and you are right
about the Velvet Underground, I still always associate them with CBGB's, even
tho they most definitely did'nt start out there.

Re: David Patrick Kelly & CBGB
Funny - almost exactly a year ago, the NY Dolls reunited and played a show at the John Varvatos Boutique, which is what now stands at the legendary spot of the former CBGBs
