Affiliates are mentioned by Cyrus and Cleon in the deleted opening scene. So, what are they exactly? Smaller informal gangs, groups of wannabe members, simpathizers in the community? I have no idea.

Good question. I was thinking maybe they were affiliated gangs in neighboring areas like Jersey, Long Island.

Hangers on. People who hang around the gang, and want to be members, but have not been asked to join yet. These are the most dangerous because they will do anything to "earn their rep" so the higher ups inthe gang will notice them.

I think its people from Jersey, long Island and westchester. In the Book they said people from Jersey and Westchester came to the big meeting.

Richard Starkey wrote:Exzactamundo my friend! A big fat style cigar goes to you for spotting that pop cultural tidbit.

A quite good film to watch on the theme of gang culture & affiliates is 'Colours' starring Robert Duvall etc.

Much goodness!
Just curious, Starkey, how big are the Simpsons in the UK?

It seems that the affilliate system could be played by a crafty leader. But how much loyalty would an affiliate have? Like if there was an affiliate who wanted to be a higher ranking member but was being given the runaround, he could go to another gang to offer information at a price.
