At the end of the film when the train arrives at Stillwell Avenue, Swan says: "This is what we fought all night to get back to? Maybe I ought to take off." It seem as though at that point he wanted to get away from being in the gang and just walk away from everything.

Yeah i recon if there had been a sequal he would have been trying to get out of the gang and start a regular life with mercy... offcourse they would have got dragged back into it for one last fight .

Thats one of my favorite scenes from the film, the view of all the rooftops reminds me of everytime ive EVER gotten of a train in my hometown...

Tis a pretty dismal scene alright.

Each time I visit Washington DC, I use the Metro, which is a subway system. It passes through parts of DC and Virginia that reminds me of the view of the rooftops as well. There are also graffiti marks on some of the areas as well.

I always thourght if there was a sequel it would be Ajax just realesed from Jail and hes got to get back to Coney, and the Warriors are going out to save him

Well I mean it kinda did but what gangbanger doesn't sound like that in any movie! But I think he kinda did though after going through all that in one night knowing he could have been killed well yeah I think so.

It did seem like Swan wanted out at the end. If he left who do you think would have been the new leader? I think Snowball should be the new leader because he's a resonable guy as well as a great fighter.

After going through all that they had to go through, the site of Coney didnt seem worth it. There was no pot of gold or rainbow for all their trouble. I think he just wanted to see some fruit from his labor.

It always bothered me when he said that. For the longest I wished for a sequel. I had to learn that the end of the movie is where the story ends and not to try to guess what happened. Like would Swan quit? Would they go get breakfast? Where did they sleep? How was Ajax doing? I had to put all those questions to rest so I could just enjoy the movie.

I don't think Swan wanted away from The Warriors so much as wanting to get away from a life going nowhere, which he came face-to-face with when they got off the train. New York City was a very dreary, dismal place in the 70's, it was very dirty, crime was extremely high, the inflation, and so much more. It was not a happy time. Anyone who does some research on NYC in the 70's will see it was a real downer. And Swan, like all The Warriors and all gang members, are stuck going nowhere.

Swan's look at Coney off the train was also after a sleepless night of fighting and running for your life, so what he saw looked even worse than what it was. Truthfully he may not have taken off after all - a good night's sleep with the realization that he needs The Warriors, my guess is he probably stayed right where he is.

Mercy, I don't know, about all the excitement was done, and she realized Swan was going nowhere, maybe she and Swan continued to see each other for a while, but I bet she, like Swan, just went back to their regular routine after a while.

You know I do feel that Sawn was getting sick of the gang lifstyle. He was probally ready to grow up and move on with his life. What probally encouraged that line of thinking was he probally figured that if he continues in The WEarriors he's either going to end up in a New York state prison, or even worse, DEAD! He's probally living out in the Hamptons and communiting into the city five days a week as a stock broker. Happy trails.

I agree with StevenFallon, he did want to get away from a life of no hope, and no future.
It is actually quite evident when he is talking to Mercy in the subway tunnel:
"I guess you like the way things are going for you, huh?"
Right there you know he is looking for and expecting more from life than what he has experience so far.
He statement at the end back at Coney, only reinforces the fact that in his mind, there has to be more somewhere---other than the future he is facing where he is.

I think he was perfectly willing to leave the Warriors as a gang behind too--knowing that the future there was just as dismal as the growing up future in the neighborhood.

he probably figured he could start something meaninful with mercy and move away from C-I ,and make a better life for himself but if there were a sequel i think one of the warriors would be in trouble and they would sweet talk him into coming back one last time............if only?
