In the Italian version Luther changes his tune of voice when speaking on the phone to his mysterious friend. He keeps the person informed about facts, but it does not seem that person is personally interested in what has happened. His tune of voice turns sweet, careful, and you can hear him disintincly say "Stai attento a non bruciarti", which means "Be careful not to get burned", as if he was talking to his wife or mate he lives with, who is maybe cooking somethnig for dinner. However, the word "attento" in italian also lets you understand that the person is male, otherwise it would have been "attenta". I've always wondered if there is any clue in the english version or elsewhere in the plot that Luther is gay.

The fire is set after that conversation so maybe it would relate to that?

In the english script, and the movie, there is nothing like that, though...
I'll have a second check, but I've always thought the fire had not been set, it was just an accident.,,

I know it's not in the english version. I'm trying to link it to what you have said.

In the english version, Luther's original voice on the phone is no such sweet...
But who do you think Luther is speaking to in those two occasions ?

I thought it was about the fire? That sounded very interesting.
I was interested in what the italian version said.
The forum has had countless conversations in the past about who he's speaking to.

The characters can be whatever orientation you want them to be after all it's still only a movie and open for interpretation. However I doubt the director or the actor for that matter considered Luthor to be gay.
Perhaps the actor that voiced the Italian version had other ideas.
Great that the movie has progressed to another level for you in that you are thinking deeper about the characters.

Luther had a wise-ass voice that had that could have gottten on your nerves fast as in "Warriors, come out and plaaay" Notice how whiney and tiresome that got real fast.
I don't think he was gay. He was chief because he was a psycho and the other guys in his gang stayed on his good side to avoid his crazyness. I imagine he probably shot guys that went against him real fast and without warning.

Luther using a masculine conjugation only proves he is talking to a man. That could corborate the Parole Agent theory, the Masai Theory, and The Policeman Theory.
Then again, the use of a masculine conjugation could be an anomly only found in the Italian version.
Maybe this will be solved by 09 and we can have a huge unveiling as the finale for the whole thing. Someone can stand in Riverside and say "Luther was talking to XXXX YYYY...CAN YOU DIG IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT?!".

Fratello, al duce di la banda o un poliziotto disonesto o corrotto. Ciao mi amico, saluti a la bella Italia.
