July 4th ???

I had a question about the date of the conclave in the movie. I know the book said July 4.

If it was supposed to be July 4th, why then in the deleted scene was nobody at the park/Coney Island. It had to have been real early in the morning when Cleon's girlfriend went to meet him.

I was thinking the movie was setup for Halloween night. I am not sure where I got that idea from, but that would explain why Coney was deserted.

That is a very good point. Coney should have been packed. Also why were there prom kids in this movie. Schools end in June in New York.

The two prom couples started out for prom in June but went to Atlantic City for the festivities. They had a temendous run of luck at the tables and were just now returning on July 4th. They were wary of the Warriors on the train because of all the cash they were carrying and is anybody buying this explanation???????

What would have made it better is if they before they left you would be able to see the people at Coney celebrating and Fire Works going off in the sky when they get on the train.

Truthfully if the beginning deleted scene as well as the ending of the movie was early in the morning, I mean very early, Coney Island would be bare like that (except for some joggers maybe) because no one would really be there yet for the park and rides, like kids and families. When The Warriors are walking through at the end, many from out of town don't know that you can do that at Coney Island at the amusement park section, you can just walk on through when everything is closed like that for the most part. It's really run more like a "carnival" up and down the streets there at that section, than like an amusement park with a distinct entrance and exit.

If the movie was taking place at Halloween night, then The Warriors are crazy for dressing like that because it can get pretty cold here in NYC in late October LOL. (Although sometimes the weather gets freakish and will even be somewhat warm during some fall and winter days.) The Warriors don't seem to be bothered by any cold at all in the movie, so maybe it is July 4th in the film? Although again, July 4th in Manhattan for instance gets crazy because of sections blocked off for firework displays, although I really don't remember how massive the displays were back in 1978 when the movie was shot.

Thanks for the input SteveFallonNYC in answering my questions.

I was not aware of the layout at Coney island. Even though I don't live that far from there, I have never been there. I have driven by numerous times going to Staten Island too. Someday soon I need to check out all the places In the City where the movie was filmed.

The explanation about the weather also makes a lot of sense. I, being from New England can relate to that 100%. Very Cold here right now.

I guess that's why it's a movie. You can do the impossible and make it all work.

The warriors would like it here, because it's way to hot to have baseball uniforms or dugerees (It gets like 40+ degrees celcius), also down the road from where I live there's a beach "scarborough" that's hold's a carnival every now and then. (I guess it's a little bit like the warriors).

Ever been on The Cyclone yet? Despite being a coaster fanatic, I only went on it for the first time this past summer! It can't compare the the massive Great Adventure coasters (especially the one they are building there now - the biggest (almost 500 feet) and fastest (128 MPH) roller coaster in history) but it is a big part of NYC history.

it couldn't have been at the end of october because the leaves on the trees were all green, by october the trees would have turned colors and there would have been a lot of leaves all over the ground.

the movie is nothing like the book so you can't go by what happens in the book.
it seems to make the most sense to me that the story took place in the beginning of june.

I was a bit confused about this.  I couldn't get why they would have a meeting during July 4th?  I mean I am sure that people would be out and about.

its true that the film was different from the book so we really can't go by that date...plus I'm sure that they wanted to make it seem like any other regular day in the summer - which was the time they began to shoot the film...if they wanted to make it as if it were july 4th i doubt they would miss adding in more details...but it would've been more work and this was a low budget movie...yet i'm sure they just wanted to get down to what is more important for the movie...plus if it were in October all the people you see in the movie would have been wearing coats

Anyway I think the movie conclave was in summer, too! 8)
