What's up Boppers?!

If you guys have read the book on which the movie is based you all have to agree to all the charactes must be latinos. Of course, the movie does not show that. I am not trying to be an asshole here by imposing myself superior to anybody else, simply because I am Latino. It just sucks to know that a lot of poeple give for granted what the author really meant by this movie. You all already know the fact that someone important wanted to make this movie an-all-black(should I fucking say African American?) movie. But the fact still suck when you consider the fact that it is a white guy who takes over after the black leader gets wasted. Hey, I read the book and would like your comments about it. I am not trying to create a fucking conrtroversy here, but let's just say that the biggest gangs in the 70's were those who were under priveleged (economically speaking and as the Jewish author intended-- read the book if you don't know what the fuck I mean).

Seriously, your arguement (and logic) is seriously flawed. You come in here saying "I don't want to cause any controversy" but then you go on a racist tirade. Its unfortunate someone has to look at the book and movie from a racial point of few. Neither had media had any underlying undertones. As far is it being discriminatory towards hispanics, that arguement could be used for any race. "You know, I only saw one Asian guy in the movie, so IT MUST BE RACIST." That logic is highly flawed.

It's a gang movie! Not a political commentary on race in our lifetime. Even if what you say is true, why get worked up about a 25 year old cult film that only leads it watchers to laugh and thrill at the exploits of Swan, Vermin, Ajax and crew. Lighten up....

What, "are you all going faggot?" You didn't get my fucking point. What I was referring to is the fact of the book. How many of you here have read the book? In fact, if you read it, you will find out that the author desliked the movie because it drastically changed what the book intended.

Am I being racist by simply exposing a fucking fact? In the book all were latinos whether you like it or not. Maybe I should have said that if the producers of the original movie wanted to be loyal to the book, they should have included only latino characters. That does not make me a racist, or does it? You probably read that they (the producers) intended an all-African American gang for the Warriors, but they declined the idea thinking about the turmoil it would had created by closed minded faggots like yourselves.

Now, I think that it is really great to have a mixed gang, but living in the real world, in a society that is always pointing at someone else as a racist, it is really hard to accept that a gang like that could have existed, ESPECIALLY in the 70s!

I know it is only a movie, but don't bullshit me with being a biggot when I was only intending to point to a freaking point in the book.

And yeah, this is still by far the greatest movie of all time.

To the guy who reckons that the original gang in the book were all latinos, if you read the 2003 reprint, there's an insightful introduction by Sol Yurick called 'How I Came To Write The Warriors And What Happened After'. In it he says: 'In the movie, the Warriors were racially mixed; almost an impossibility. My Warriors had all been black'. Not my words, but the words of Sol Yurick himself. There are also various character descriptions throughout the book that reaffirm this. Papa Arnold, Lunkface and the Junior are all very black characters, though I can see how someone might think they were latino, one reason being that the second in command's name happens to be Hector. As for the film, Rembrandt is Puerto Rican, and he seems to be half-based on the book's hero, Hinton, so there you go. And the reason Walter Hill originally wanted an all-black gang for the film is simple, it was an all-black gang in the book. Now I hate racism, but I also hate tokenism, and I've got a feeling that the remake is gonna be full of it. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a gang member from every ethnic group, just to please everyone.

Thats ture indeed they were all of mixed race. Infact the director was thinking of having a all black cast of the Warriors.

First of all I must say well done to Coney Island Baby. You are the one who knows the facts properly in this thread. And as for that guest making comments about races and nationalities, all I've got to say is chill out and let the movie be as it is. It happened in 1979, your not going to change it.
