The Purifiers: The New Generation of Warriors

I saw this DVD last night, and it appears to be yet another film loosely based and/or inspired by the "Warriors". Just like "Aussie Park Boyz", this film was released in 2004, and it has basically the same plot as the "Warriors". This version was made in the U.K., whereas "Aussie Park Boyz" was an Australian release, which delt with an Aussie Italian gang trying to make it back to their home turf, while battling a gauntlet of theme gangs, after a meeting with the biggest gangs in the city goes sour. Again, in the "Purifiers", you can see similarities, the train scenes in the beginning of the "Warriors" are emulated in this film, as the gang goes to a meeting with several other gangs, called by the big gang leader of them all, MOSES (notice the 5 letter comparion to "Cyrus"). There are gangs known as The Angels, The Eels, etc. and when the Purifiers decide not to join the new federation of gangs under Moses, known as "Us Together", they are targeted for termination, and must make it back to their home turf while fighting gangs who are sent out to stop them. The film has some average to okay special effects and martial arts, if Tony Scott was going to make his upcoming remake like this, as was rumored last year, it's been done to death already so he should not do it like this-a "Matrix" meets Bruce Lee kinda joint. The film was not too exciting, but it does get straight to the point and that was good. It is not a film I strongly recommend, but just to see the similarities to the "Warriors", you might want to take a look-the movie stars that hobbit from "Lord of the Rings"-Dominic Monahan. Peace.

Gotta look for that.  I'd like to see it just to say I did and see if there is anything redeeming in it. :|

I have copies of both "The Purifiers" and "Aussie Park Boyz". I liked the comparisons in these movies to the Warriors.

I think we've found the all-time winner for worst gang name.  Purifiers?  How can you be scared of a household appliance?  Just be sure to clean their filters every two weeks.

That's true. However, I don't find "hihats" that scary either.  Don't get me wrong, If they were called Killer Mimes they would have mad respect in here. ( Seriously)But I'm glad that a new hood gets the lame name trophy.

yes Dominic is in it, he did a good job atleast in my opinion, but it was hard at first seeing that he came from a gang of hobbits (type casted) to a gang of high tech martial arts fighters...expect more movies based on "The Warriors" to come out this year-from the rumour circle.

The Purifiers sounds more like eco-terrorists to me.  Guys that set SUVs on fire.

The Purifiers is such a terrible movie.

How Walter Hill hasn't sued their asses I'll never know...

I might have to check out The Purifiers just for the sake of catching all The Warriors references and inspiration. I've wanted to see "Aussie Park Boys" for a while as well.

Purifiers?! That's a bad name, man! Talkin' of bad names, have any of you guys seen a film called 'Street Soldiers'?. It's about these two gangs called 'The JP's' and 'The Tigers' that keep Kung-Fu-ing each others asses. It's very cheesy but worth watching as it stars 'Cropsey' from The Warriors as one of the main JP's. You gotta see him when he's practising Martial Arts... it's hilarious!

Theres only one good thing about The Purifiers- the music. Its done by Steven Severin of Siouxsie and the Banshees.
