Coney Island
Coney Island
Does anyone know how far Coney Island is from The Bronx? In the movie Vermin says "Fuckin Coney Island most be 50 -100 miles from here!" That seems to be a very genral guess with 50 miles in the leway. Well on the trailer the figure is 27 miles.
When we see the ocean we figure were home, were safe.
Coney Island
It's about 10 going by another post.
The more you say on film the better it sounds for the movie!

Coney Island
It just seems like 100 miles when you gotta bop your way from the Bronx to Coney.

Coney Island
Putting in Mapquest driving directions from the original Nathan's on Surf Avenue in "C.I., the big Coney" to Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx (where the big meeting is supposed to take place) tells us it is a 41 minute drive (with traffic this is highly unrealistic) and 29.60 miles. It's a big park so I picked the south side as a destination. Going deeper into the park would put it at 30+ miles.

Coney Island
I suppose "Fuckin Coney Island must be 50-100 miles from here" does sound a lot more dramatic than " Fuckin Coney Island must be 27 miles from here.... wanna get a cab?"

Coney Island
I always thought Vermin's line of "50-100 miles" was pretty funny. Between that and Rembrandt's "I found Coney Island!" as if he didn't know where it actually was on a subway map, it makes one think The Warriors have been pretty sheltered boys who never stepped out of a ten-block radius lol.
Big Cyrus. He was gonna run the whole city...what crap that was.

Re: Coney Island
Whoa, nobody was posting here about 7 years... It's time for reviving.
When I heard Vermin's line "50 to 100 miles away" for the 1st time I was like... hey, this "trip" is gonna be looong. Anyway, it's nice to see opinions about that.
Great topic!

Re: Coney Island 50 to 100 miles away
the IMDB goof database says the line shows Vermin's general ignorance of things as being the reason (corrected from it being just plain wrong as a fact)
being from a big city in England (as we Limeys class them), I didn't know how big that is from one end to the other (14 miles at the longest stretch in a city that isn't completely circular) and the Warriors both made me find out and then ask other locals of all ages and races and areas etc about it to test the query - most people don't know and get it wrong
so just ask in your own city (even New York itself) to see if people know. You may find that they don't.
So maybe that explains it like IMDB now says - most people are ignorant of how big a city is even though actually living in it.
many of the makers being from California (Hollywood) might also explain it though - that they just didn't know due to being outsiders.
