I saw a guy on the bus today who had the perfect Snow afro. It attracted some looks and everyone thought it was pretty cool. Thought I'd make it into a random question.

absolutly not! I went all through elementary school with an afro and got teased and made fun of for it every day. now i always have my hair cut (if i can grab a handfull of hair then it get's cut...a trick the romans used to avoid getting their throat slit) so now i have a shaved head most of the time.

just my 2 cents.

As much as I do like 70's fashion (and have adopted some of it for myself even), the afro is one part of it I'm glad never made a full-fledged comeback. (It actually started in the late 60's too.)

It's odd, where the afro is concerned. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Where it almost always doesn't work is on women. IMO women should never have afros under any circumstances. It's a crime against the pretty women who have them, and it makes the not-so-pretty women look even less pretty. Why would they do that?

It may even depend on if one is good looking, I don't know. Snow in The Warriors is a good looking guy and he looks good with his afro. Rembrandt is ok looking, maybe that's the key. I've seen bad looking guys with them in 70's films and they look no better with the afro. So maybe the better looking the guy, the more the afro will work LOL.

The one single girl who I ever thought looked hot even with an afro was Thelma on "Good Times." Man oh man, she was probably my first boyhood crush and damn if she still doesn't look freaking hot today (afro long gone btw).

my boyfriends is trying to grow an afro kind of like snow's; he has it in cornrows mostly but when his hair isn't done he looks like sh!t, i can't take it. My dad used to have one so big, it didn't fit in his school pictures. I never understood why having longer hair than your girlfriend was so important. But I'd take it any day over gold teeth and huge necklaces (wait, that's an '80s thing, isn't it?)

Snow even has what appears to be a "parted" afro of some sort lol. Looks good on him tho'.

Afros are cool but it depends on the person its on.

One of the good things about having an afro is, you can hide and smuggle stuff in it. In the Blaxploitation film Coffy, Pam Grier hides razor blades in her afro, so when a woman grabs her hair in a bitchfight, she ends up cutting her hands up. One of the bad things about having an afro is that sometimes, birds will nest in it.

I nevered liked afros. Too much hair.

I tried growing one once and I probably nearly had it to the size of Fox's afro but it just became too annoying after a while so i shaved my head.

The only person I know of who made afros look cool was Thin Lizzy frontman Phil Lynott.

Afros are now that retro flavour of the young people who don't even remember the first time round. Not too many old school people would wear an afro nowadays which is a symbol of days gone by. I think they look best in old photos and tv shows and best left there except for 70's parties and fancy dress when they look funky.
