WARRIORS DISPLAY AT GRAND CENTRAL STATION IN NYC!!

Now, it's not too big, but very cool nonetheless! Here's the scoop...

New York City has two Transit Museums, one in Brooklyn which is large and you must pay an admission, and a smaller one that is for free, which is in the middle of Grand Central Station in midtown Manhattan. As a subway fan, I go in there and they always have some exhibit going on (old subway signs, model subways, etc).

I was doing errands in Manhattan today and some time to kill, and I was at Grand Central Station, so I went into the Transit Museum as I haven;t been there for a while.

Turns out the new exhibit there is called "New York Transportation In Film," which showcases films where the subways play a big role.

They have a continuous documentary playing in various parts of the museum, showing scenes with narration of various films, and The Warriors is showcased of course. They show the scene where the prom kids come into the train where The Warriors are, and show all th way up to where Swan gives mercy the flower-thing at Stillwell Station. The narrator says something about how the subway brings people of different types together in the same place/subway car.

But the best part, is that the films showcased get a small spot on the museum wall, usually something like a photo or two, or a movie poster. But The Warriors got a little more! They actually have an actual gang costume on display, it is a costume of the Chinese gang. It's pretty cool, the costume is brown and fitted on a figure shaped as a human made of styrofoam. The headpiece is there, and the back of the costume has a cool tiger image! It feels 28 years old lol. On the wall, the costume is described as being "from the Yankee Stadium scene." (!) It also says the costume is on loan from the Museum of the Moving Image (which is in Queens I believe, I have never been there yet).

Now sure, a Warriors costume would have ruled, but still pretty darn cool!

There's something else kind of cool too. The Warriors get not one, but four pictures on the wall. THree are the same size - there's one of the High-Hats, The Boppers, and The Furies. (It's odd that there is no full-gang Warriors pic up.) Then there's a bigger photo, of a possible deleted scene? I have never seen this photo before, maybe someone here can shed some light on it. It is a photo of Rembrandt in a subway car, can in hand, about to spray-paint the car's wall over his seat, and he is right next to a really old woman who is sitting there looking at him (and he is looking at her).

Any info on this??

So anyhows, for you fellow NYC fans and fans near enough to NYC, you have to get to Grand Central Station to check this out! Wasn't it GonzoNYC who gave us the recent pics of Warriors locations? Maybe you can get your digital in there and snap a few pics!

The display and event of "New York Transportation In Film" will be up until October 30th, so anyone who can get there to see it has some time to get there. Here's the URL about it on the MTA's (Metropolitan Transit Authority) website...

The Taking of the Pelham 123 is an awesome subway movie. Great ending. It's also where Quentin Tarantino stole the idea of color surnames (Mr. Blue, Mr. Brown, etc.) for Reservoir Dogs.

If you can, do us all a favor and bring a digital camera and take some pics so you can post them up.

I live way down here in Texas and their ain't a snowball's chance in hell that I'll make it up there by the end of October...

Do it up dude, try to get a pic! My roommate has a digital, I'm also gonna see if I can borrow it tomorrow and get some shots. If she allows me to (it's pretty expensive even for a digital so she hates bringing it outside, I know why have one LOL) I'll post here!

Thanks, Snow! Any fan of The Warriors and The Clash is a freind of mine. Anyone else remember The Clash's 17 consecutive shows at Bonds during the same era in NYC as our movie? Steve?

Don't recall that but they had to have been great shows :).

Gonx when Strummer died, there was a show at The Continental where a bunch of local bands played Clash tunes, were you there? My band at the time, Beauty School Dropouts, played the show, but we were really disappointed because the day before we were told we couldn't play three of the four Clash songs we rehearsed. Normally we would have said "f**k you" and played them anyway, but The Continental was our fave place to play in all of Manhattan so we didn't wanna mess with it.

My personal fave Clash album is by far the first one, one of the great punk albums. I know critics always say "London Callng" but I think the first blows it away, as good as some of those songs are on LC. I always wanted to play "I'm So Bored With The USA" and change the words to "UK" lol. No offense UK Warriors fans, just a little giveback :).

I really don't like political bands on the whole but I can always listen to that first album anytime.

Missed that show. I agree about the first album...a classic. You need to tell us where we can get your old band's music!

There was a grey haired woman, along with a few other people, on the subway car with them at one time--because there is a promotional glossy of the whole gang surrounding this lady and they all have big smiles on their faces, and some are looking at her, some at the camera---even Ajax is smiling--and it is cute picture.
I have it from somewhere? and I keep thinking it was the second time they jumped in the subway car--like after they ran from the Turnbulls--but I could be screwed up on the scene times.
