I was wondering why they wouldnt just take their colours off?? I know that when they were going thru the Orphans territory they said that its not who they are ect. but they probably would of all made it (except for cleon) so why not. Would you rather die than take your colours off?

I think it was foolish pride. I never understood did the orphans leader mean for them to take their vests off and leave them there because Mercy wanted one, or just take them off and carry them witht them.

Well, The Warriors are a heavier set than the Orphans and the Warriors don't wuss out. Besides, it wouldn't look good on the Warriors rep if they wussed out for some low class Orphans.

I dont think the movie would have been the same, without the vests, you know?
they meet the orphans very early in the story. Every single costume is very important in the movie, can u imagine, the most important gang, without their colours?

I'm pretty sure Sully just wanted them to take the vests off, walk away as civilians and take their colors with them.
But as Warriors, that ain't no option. Live as a warrior, die as a warrior. Word would get out on the network fast that the warriors dumped their colors in order to scamper on home. Then Masai would never say to them "You Warriors are good, real good."
And, oh yeah, you wouldn't have a movie.

Well said, these guys were hard mothers - they're not gonna take their colours off for nobody, you wear them with pride if you're a Warriors....wouldn't you - you may not make it to warrior if you don't have that passion.

Even if I'd have run into the Orphans all by myself, I'd rather be stomped into the ground a Warrior, than walk down the street a civilian...

It's all about gang pride! taking yer colors off would show that you dont show pride in yer gang. The Warriors would have to take off their vests and hold em in their hands or tie it around their waste er whatever and walk through as civilians. Now why should they do that!?!?! the Orphans leader told them to take their colors off to see what theyre dealin with... if they took off their colors the orphans would have nu'n to worry about... but if the Warriors didnt the Orphans would know that their dealin with Hardcore soldiers... literally...notice how worried the Orphans leader was... he hesitated wether he should come down on them! mercy had barely anything to with this particular situation! there you go

!
i told you theyre a buncha wimps!

I am sure the Orphans would of bragged about it later on, Swan knew this. By taken them off, the Warriors would show an act of submission, which on the streets it would be considered humiliation. They just stuck to their guns and well, the "F---k You" follows!

They earned those colors. It's who they are. To dump their colors would mean they were denying who they were to another gang, and would not be an option.
On another note, is it EVER acceptable to dump one's colors? For example, like when sending a scout into enemy turf - would it be acceptable for him to not wear his colors during that mission so he could blend in to check things out? Or should he be expected to wear his colors just the same, and lay low?
I don't think so, especially since the scout would probably take too much pride in them. Nowadays, disrespecting your colors would get you jumped out of the gang, especially taking them off for a weak set like the Orphans or anyone else for that matter, and we all know the Warriors are too heavy for that. I mean, if they didn't take them of to avoid the ACs or the cops, then they're not taking them off for anyone.

I didnt just mean to take them off for the orphans... i meant take them off all in all so the cops wont get them (maybe Ajax) the other gangs wouldnt recognise them. But my question was still answered, Thanks!

If you are a member of a gang, you can't do it! You Must defend your gang name & rep!!! If someone wants your vest he must conquer it, it's not a gift or a souvenir.
