yeah, the ultimate fear and intimidation is that of ultimate and complete "silence".  Like scurvy Dog said, for all we know, maybe when they are on their safe grounds, they take off their face paint, and perhaps just where baseball caps to signify their "marks", but when it comes to battle, "silence" can be the ultimate fear factor.  The shadowy image of mystery and crazy face marking, can express a lot without talking.  After all, when ancient samurai warriors, or Native Americans warriors, wore face masks of ancient spirits during combat, they did it out of intimidation, and a code of silence.

Well 1000% agree Scurvy Dog: silence and painted faces as "great" weapons 4 instilling fear in their enemies, no doubt they spoke and no faces painted in their hang-out.
So I was wondering, their vests-their gang was like a real baseball team.... perhaps they were good baseball players, why not? Anyway they surely liked baseball!!!
So do you guys think they "talked" by a "gesture-code" (like baseball teams during a match) during a fight?
I mean they could have written a new code only 4 gang's "matches"!!! By that War Lord could give his soldiers all necessary orders!!! 8)

LOL, I was just about to suggest that maybe they used baseball signals with each other.  Or maybe they also chewed Skoal and wore cups to their rumbles.  I did notice when the lead Fury knocked out Cowboy, he kind of bunted him.

I don't think the furies cared much for the whole talking thing all they seemed to want to do was murder and create fear.

Scurvy Dog wrote: Brilliant theory about using signals, The Swan. I could easily see them signaling to each other in the street, even if it was just the tip of their cap or touching their wrist - they probably communicated that way all the time, even without makeup when they were out and about in their real identities.

On that note, could you imagine how scary it would be to be initiated into the Furies? You'd be there in your regular clothes, no face paint, surrounded by freaks in face paint, uniforms and wooden bats. You wouldn't get your facepaint until you earned your colors, so you'd have to fight some of them to get in, and have the psychological mindfreak going against you.
Yeah and you know what, during the initiation?
You cannot obviously speak, shout, cry or whatever else!!!
Well if you wanna be a Furie.... you have to fight like a Furie!!! 8)

To me, the Furies are like the equivalent to the Ducky Boys (for anybody who's seen and/or read the Wanderers).

They never talk in front of other gangs or people, just to give themselves that whole "mysterious" edge. I can imagine that they would talk to each other in their hangout, but not take off their facepaint- after all, what if somebody attacks their hangout? They'd never have time to put the paint back on!

the face paint and no speach is an act of intimadating there rival gangs or the gang they are chasing. it's same with the bats, the leader does some neat stuff with the bats which is very weird. but it is all to intimaidate the gang they are after.

i beleive they do speak when they are not fighting or running. i think they would have deep voices. well they would because they are played by 30 year olds. i don't know about the face paint thing, because if someone is coming trashing their teratory. they will have to put make up on which takes time, and by the time they are finished getting ready. their turf would have been wrecked, and the gang would have gone.

No, I don't think all day long... if this is what you meant. Only when they went off to some Gang Fight/War!!!
But, everything is possible... maybe during the day they painted their faces. It was a good way of intimidating people indeed!!!
