I thought the 1st series of figures sold out quick?

Did Mezco have trouble selling them then?

They can't just keep releasing figures if they aren't selling. Also, as far as the Warriors, I know for a fact that the guys at Mezco are big fans of the film themselves. Just the fact that they decided to try again with a new line of Warriors figures 4 years later shows their dedication to the property. Most companies would just let the license laps and say to hell with it. Happens all the time.

You know what I really want to see from Mezco right now? An Eric Powell Baseball Fury figure, based on the image he did for the comic. Mezco would do an amazing job on that.
Maybe it's just me, but I think if the figures were a bit cheaper and more were made, then Mezco would make more money off of them, but that's just me. 40 bucks for one figure seems a bit pricey to me.

Must admit the price of the figures does seem expensive.

I think they have gone for quality over quantity, and to be fair they are quite impressive.

Also I think they know 'The Warriors' is a cult market so they will always sell a certain amount and probably not much more than that. They seem to be keen on having there exclusives as well only making so many hundred of some types of figure.

The original line was not embraced well by retailers, and therefore was not a huge seller for Mezco. It took months for them to dry up at retail, but once it did, it didn't take long for them to rise in value. So it isn't that they weren't in high demand to the public, retailers just didn't place enough orders, and people didn't catch on soon enough. Those figures were priced at about $20 and produced in higher numbers than the new series.

Of course price is a big factor, and these aren't going to fly out of stores, but there is a lot more to these figures than the last figures, which drives up the costs. A highly detailed, full clothed 12" figure from a company like Sideshow Collectibles sells for anywhere between $60 and $100, so a 9" scale figure of the same quality costing $25 to $40 is right on par.

Another point, these new figures can be purchased for $25 to $30 most places, that is only $5 to $10 more than the 2005 figures.

Toys are expensive these days all around, it isn't cheap to be a collector anymore.

None of this changes the simple fact, that if enough units of any toy do not sell well enough, a company is not going to continue to sink money into producing them.

Didn't realise that about the first series, not doing so well with the reatialers, thanks for the info TCM.

If there is a chance that Mezco will stop production of them then I hope they just get all of the 9 Warrirors out first, it will be a real shame if they don't complete the set and then end production.

Well I got through three of the series 2 figures yesterday, so I now got them except for the Sully figure.

Impressed with Cyrus think he is the best of the series 2 figures, looks really well made, the clothing and necklace are cool.

Still a bit unsure about the Swan figure, think I prefer the series 1 version, the Basefull Furie is good though.

I think the cyrus figure is the best, your feeling where the same as mine Riff,  but the swan figure does grows on you after a while, in saying that though I display my one with his back to you,
so you see the vest instead of his face. still great to own these awesome figures.
will there be more???  I hope so :D

Yeah Cyrus is the best of the new one's, a Riff soldier would be cool in the next lot of figures, maybe based on the Riff that took out Cleon.

Also I want to see Snow as the next Warrior.

I'm not that keen on the stylisation of series 1 figures.  The heavely muscled upper body combined with the skinny legs and flared pants reminded me too much of something from a Popeye cartoon.  The joints are also a bit too fragile.  Series 2 attention to detail far surpasses series 1's patchy paint job.  I don't dislike series 1, but series 2 wins hands down for me.

i agree that series 2 is much more detailed and movie-like, but series 1 has more of that action figure feel to it and series 2 reminds me of barbie dolls. since i do not remove the figures from the package, it could be that the overall appearance of the series 1 figures in the package is more of an eye-grabber (for me anyway). maybe if series 2 were packaged better (figures were more visible) and the figures were a quarter bigger, i'd like them better than series 1.

Series 1 v Series 2

Post by D.kidly »

Hey guys,

These look great.  I am not too thrilled about the name choice but at a 5 pricepoint I could deffinetely see me picking these up

So what is the scale of these compared to AF Ships?

Nice reporting Jeff and remember to change your line "Series 3 will be mine."  It's yours.
