Well it has occured to me that some issues about this movie can be swayed depending upon your inclusion or exclusion of the deleted scenes. For example, Swan showed some emotion about Ajax being arrested in the deleted scene just before the punks fight. Without that scene, Swan is an emotional ice cube. So, about the genius Fox, in the deleted scene just before the conclave, the Warriors were not confident about where they were. Where was the "scout and memory man?"

They'd never been in the Bronx before. As for the Swan - ice cube thing, I think that that deleted scene should have been put in sinply because the staredown between the gathering Punks and the Warriors is awesome.
Oh and this should be in the 1979 page.

I know it belongs in the 79 page but it was locked. I also know they had never been to the Bronx before, but, that is what a scout is for.

Scouts scout things, they don't have to know the place to be a scout.

Please don't use a term as you define that term. If he didn't know his way around, he was not a good scout.

actually it means to "go in search of"---"survey for things" and as long as he was LOOKING for the right way---he was the scout, all he has to do is keep ahead and keep them going in the right direction.
HE did NOT have to KNOW exactly where he was, as long as his direction sense was true and he kept the group going the right way, with a minimum of problems.
In the old West, scouts found their way as they went through things---Fox was doing the same thing---finding the way as they went.
AND considering he recognized all the other gangs, and knew something about them, I would say he was a good scout and memory man.
Swan showed his emotions on the train with the prom couples, and in the tunnel describing his discontent-and his facial expression when he was fighing---Ajax was the emotional one, and was supposed to be--Swan was supposed to be COOL and in control---and MB did the job right, IF he would have been exploding all over like Ajax, the movie would not have stayed nearly as coherant as it did. By under-emoting, Swan was a leader, and kept things together, and by over-emoting, Ajax gets burned---a whole lot like some real life experiences.

I guess Cleon wasn't relying too heavily on his scout or he wasn't aware of the clear definition. As far as Swan, I consider him to be a fine leader. So there is no argument there. Just because one has emotion, they don't necessarily show it. Likewise, Ajax is probably the most written about character, so what can we say that hasn't been regurgitated hundreds of times. But anyway, I guess everybody is entitled to their turgid opinion. Peace
