Tony Scott commits suicide
Tony Scott commits suicide
The famed director jumped off an LA bridge today. RIP!

Re: Tony Scott commits suicide
This could have all been avoided had he been hard at work on the sequel/remake.

Re: Tony Scott commits suicide
I just watched it myself on the news this morning.
Re: Tony Scott commits suicide
Just read this news - and had to come to this site to confirm if he was the same director reportedly to work on a Warriors reload.
Never saw Top Gun - but did see a whole host of other movies he made - and I really liked his take on Pelham 1-2-3. When I see that film, its the dialogue that grabs you - the words exchanged by Travolta and Washington's characters.

Re: Tony Scott commits suicide
Just to clarify; is it the same bridge in LA that he wanted to film the conclave on? How ironic would that be?
Maybe he read my comment about giving the project to Neil Marshall. Or just topped himself from embarassment because a 12 year old can come up with a fan fiction that's better than his scripts.
I'm all out of sympathy. Not that I ever had any for the man who tainted this world with top gun.

Hey 9D,
Funny you should ask that about the bridge, because IT IS the very same
bridge that was going to be in the opening of the supposed "Warriors" remake.
It's called the St. Vincent Thomas Bridge, witch connects the cities of San Pedro
and Long Beach in LA.

Re: Tony Scott commits suicide
Apparently Tony Scott had inoperable brain cancer and left notes for his family. Poor guy.

Re: Tony Scott commits suicide
Indeed, rather sad. I wonder if he lived around that area. The closest place
I can think of where a fairly rich man would live in proximity to that bridge would
be the Palos Verdes Peninsula. Nieghborhoods ranging from slightly upper middle
class, to outright posh. It would be a 20 or 30 minute drive to get to the bridge
from there.
Or, maybe the spot where he decided to end it all had something to do with the
remake of the Warriors, at least in some way. Who knows.

Scott was eerily no stranger to the Vincent Thomas Bridge, the fourth largest suspension bridge in California. In a 2009 interview with Rotten Tomatoes about his plans to do a remake of the movie, The Warriors, Scott talked about why he planned to switch the movie location from New York to Los Angeles. "It's a city which is horizontal,” he said. “New York is vertical, all skyscrapers, and Los Angeles is horizontal. I'm hoping to get a hundred thousand real gang-members standing on the Vincent Thomas Bridge for one shot."
At the time of the interview, Scott was busy interviewing LA’s gangbangers. "I've been meeting the various gangs as part of the research," he explains. "I never meet the gang leader, always his second-in-command. I have to do this little tap-dance and sell the film to them. I've met them all, Crips, Bloods, The 18th Street Gang, The Vietnamese and so on. The all love The Warriors. So it was, 'yeah, fuck yeah we'll be in that!'"

autopsy reports found "lunesta" (a sleeping agent) and an unnamed anti-depressant in his system.
being from L.A. i would've loved to see a warriors film based here. And it wouldn't have taken anything away from my beloved "Warriors"
