After reading that little bit in the 1979 page, I'm actually feeling a lot better about the remake than I am about the comic-booky-ness of the director's cut.
Because one thing that every Warriors fan knows, is that being able to show it to someone who's never seen it before is very important. Although I am intrigued by the comic-bookyness, the animated intro looks to be poop. I think I'd show them the original first, then the director's cut.
Oh and if that post is true, then WH has done what I most wished he hadn't. "In the near future"
