If they want to promote the movie/story that started it all, they shouldn't do so by creating a new version of the story.
The making of the 1979 movie, from what I read, went through very difficult and frightening times. Why let all of their hard work go to waste, by having the original movie be 'replaced' or 'subtituted' by a younger, lesser, and inferior production that's nothing more than a wannabe?
If they want to introduce The Warriors to a younger, ignorant audience, they shouldn't do so by making a different version of it. Even if they tried to make it as identical as possible, it would fail.
The only thing there is to gain from the remake, is self promotion and profits. That's why they are doing it. Not because they love the movie, but because they want to feed off of what others love. Oh sure they'll bring back the Baseball Furies, etc. etc. and make them look as accurately as possible, but they are willing to go that far if that's what it takes to reel in veteran fans of the original.
It's all about money. After all, it's much easier remaking something that's already loved, rather than creating and inventing something from scratch and hoping everyone will 'dig it'.
That is the bane of today's filmmakers, abandoning creativity and taking the shortcut to success. Notice how many Romeo and Juliet movies there are in history. It's disgusting. even 1 remake is more than enough.
The Warriors didn't come to be copying off other movies. It was based on a book. Because there's a world of a difference reading a book and watching a movie. In my opinion, movies do a better job bringing stories to life. Yes books are great to imagine and feel the stories are real, but it still can't top what your eyes actually see and your ears actually hear as opposed to what your mind sees and hears.
But back to the remake, yeah it's gonna be made anyway, and maybe it will convince more newcomers into watching the original at some point to see what it's really like (which would be a plus).
But as it stands, as we all know and are aware of what we see in front of us,
out of the 2 movies to choose from, The Warriors (1979) is the only version we need.
I feel a remake is unnecessary.

You make a great point! I think that maybe they should reinvent the film by telling the story of the O.G. nine and their trip home then they can fast forward to the way the warriors gang changed with time. For example they can tell what became of the o.g.'s then show who takes over and the new generation of the warriors gang...
