Obviously there are loads of directors that I left out and couldn't fit in, so feel free to chip in with your own suggestions. Just don't mention Michael Bay. :x

Had to go for John C but, only going by his 70's and 80's form.

He is in charge of 3 of my top 10 films of all time.

The Thing, Escape from New York and Assault on precint 13 (orig).

QT should not be allowed anything to do with the remake.

I HAD to vote for my man Romero....if I was lucky, he'd be directing it and cast John Leguizamo as someone...I really wouldn't care who, as long as we get to see him in action....seriously, did anyone see him in Land of the Dead? Boy is buff!

For me,I would let Rodriguez and Tarantino team up like they did for
SIN CITY and shoot it,because they are Masters of what they do,and that is putting A$$es to seats...ad they are good directors..
and trust me,I sure don't want Michael Bay...

Yeah, John Carpenter was great in his prime. Precinct 13 is one of my favourites too.

If he had directed The Warriors (back in the day), it probably wouldn't have been that different from Walter Hill's version, because they're both pretty similar directors. They're both experts at making tough guy action movies with cool dialogue. In the 80s, they were actually gonna collaborate together on a film called Shadow Company, but it fell through.

As for Romero, if he made The Warriors, they'd be 27 miles behind enemy lines, with thousands of zombies after them. How cool would that be?

AND they wouldn't have weapons, so they wouldn;t be able to hurt the zombies!!! But unless they were intelligent zombies (Like in Land of the Dead), they wouldn't be able to climb the stairs up to the train platforms!

Most zombies retain the basic physical abilities they had when they were living, so I don't think climbing the stairs would be a problem. Remember in the original Dawn when that Hare Krishna zombie climbed the stairs to get Francine?

And you're right, they wouldn't have any weapons, apart from the baseball bats they nicked off the Furies, which would be good for some oldskool hit and run head-whacking. As for Ajax, he'd probably be so desperate for some 'strange wool' that he'd try it on with a female zombie and get bitten. Imagine a zombie Ajax.

A zombie Ajax would be pretty tight!

But at the beginning of Dawn '78, there were no zombies on the 2nd floor of the mall...it was after they turned on the power that the escalators started running and the zombies were able to ride up to that floor. Sorry to be picky, that's just the way I am.

All I said was that the zombies showed that they could climb stairs. The ending wouldn't have worked if they couldn't, remember when Flyboy leads the rest of the zombies up the stairs to get the two remaining survivors? Stairs and escalators are different..........for zombies anyway.

You gotta remember the whole film is a stab at consumerism culture, so the reason the zombies didn't climb the escalators to the 2nd floor is simple - they're not used to climbing escalators, they're used to being carried by them, like all of us. Their stuck in their old ways, their demented minds can't fathom change.

I've just realized we've gone way off topic, but I started this thread so what the hell! :)

im as big a film buff as it gets and im telling ya,you need a director who can make the same atmosphere.

if the following directors were to direct the remake, heres what it would turn out like-

quentin tarantino- he would definately capture the coolness, but would end up making the film his own, and make it like all his movies.

john carpenter- he could create the futuristic 70s feel, but the warriors isnt his speciality.

george romero- romero is famous for his horror movies wich contain great satire, but i dont believe he could pull it off, he does horror movies but hasnt tried anything else.

woody allen- directs comedies, why would he suddenly go to a gang warfare flick?

cronenberg and lynch- if you want the warriors remake to become a rather disterbing flick,be my guest

martin scorcese- he wouldnt go near the warriors, but if he did it wouldnt be so bad

spike lee- he would be able to capture the violence and the gang warfare, but not much else, plus he might cast a rapper.

and rob rodriguez- same with tarantino, but hed do better directing a western or something....

i cant say who would do better directing the remake, but i have faith in this ...tony scott.

honki!!!

The whole point of this thread was to think about how different The Warriors would be in the hands of different directors. We know none of them are going to direct the remake, we're just wondering what if. Personally, I don't want anyone to remake The Warriors, but it's out of our hands.

And I put Woody Allen on the poll for a joke. What a movie that would be though - The Warriors directed by Woody Allen. They'd be running around kicking ass to a jazz soundtrack, and they'd probably stop to see their analyst on the way back to Coney.

Well done Gonzo for finding this.

Well now, I feel quite juvenile for not catching that...I'm used to catching metaphors in media...well mostly BtVS but I guess I can catch those because they're metaphors for what teenagers go through.

I DID however, catch the metaphor in LOTD....

tell me, are all the "Dead" movies stabs at consumerism? Because I think the original way the zombies came back had to do with man's nuclear research....I think it said that in the night of the Living Dead filmbook, but I'm not sure. Although technically, man's nuclear research can be interpreted as consumerism.....

Okay, now my brain hurts. Real bad.

That's just the way I interpreted it. The original Dawn is the most satirical out of all the Dead films, but satire aside the thing I like most about those films is that they're just really good horror movies, plain and simple. It doesn't matter whether you 'get' the social commentary or not. I think we should stop over-analysing them or my brain's gonna start hurting too. :)

Sadly, I can't comment on LOTD, because I haven't seen it yet. But I will, as soon as it comes out over here, or as soon as I'm able to get a DVD shipped over from your side of the water. Until then, no spoilers zombiechick!

Hey speaking of the movie, remember when that one guy was suounded by like 2,000,000 zombies and all he had was a grenade? That was cool!

   JUST KIDDING!

It's a good movie, and worth the wait.

You know what would be interesting...Peter Jackson...on one hand, everyone would hate it cuz it would get all the Oscars...on the other hand...it'd get all the Oscars, but I bet no on would even thank Sol Yurick.
That happened when Forrestr Gump won the Best Pic Oscar, no one thanked Winston Groom, the author of the book....Whoa! I actually retained knowledge from 8th grade!
