Favorite Zombie flick !
Favorite Zombie flick !
First of all, i gave only the well known ones (maybe forgotten one or two), if you have your own favorite zombie flick please share it with us.
The Movies: (no spoilers)
Night of the dead: After a small and strange meteor from outer space crashs into earth people are starting to come back to life with a craving for human flesh, a group of survivors fight for their lives in an old house. Classic zombies here- slow, brainless and hungrey.
Dawn of the dead: Sequel of "Notd", this time other survivors make their stand in an abandoned mall. Same zombies as in "Notd".
Dawn of the dead (rmk): After a strange epidemic turn most of the population to flesh eating ghouls a group of (you guessed it..) survivors find refuge in a huge shopping mall, surronded by zombies. Much more blood and gore then the original but not as classic. Zombies here have evolved to a fast running killing machine.
Land of the dead: this movie had to potential of being a good one but sadly it misses. This movie shows us what is life after a zombie infestation, and focuses on a big city, which devided in two section : rich and poor. The rich of course get better protection from the threat outside while the poor and the soldiers defending the city are exposed to the manacing zombies. Here the zombies acctualy learned to speak (ghoulish, lol) and work as a team, and provide us some nice action scenes.
28 days later: A group of animal activists breaks into a test lab in an attempt to release the animals which goes through medical expriments, one of the monkeys manage to bite an activist and infect him with some kind of virus..28 days later we see the virus has spreaded and (What!? really?!) zombies walk the streets again. The movie focus and a group of 2/3 militia and a man and his daugther searcing for help, most likely the army.

Re: Favorite Zombie flick !
Nice one, Einherjar. The original Dawn of the Dead wins hands down
Romero's 'mall survival' concept really grabbed me, and had my imagination working ten fold. This one also has the best zombies in it... the original slow moving, 'shoot 'em in the head' creepy ones will always be the scariest! Why-o-why did they use running zombies in the remake?!
Talking of remakes, Night of the Living Dead was remade in '91 or '92 by Tom Savini (the king of horror make-up / actor), and it rocks man. Definitely one of my top zombie films.
As Fox said, Lucio Fulci's 'Zombie Flesh Eaters' is cool too... Who could forget that crazy underwater 'Shark VS. Zombie' fight?
Some of the worst I've seen are 'Zombie Lake' and the 'Return of the Living Dead' series, but I'd still happily sit and watch them again

Re: Favorite Zombie flick !
The movie Resident Evil was on telly Sunday night... I've seen it before, but what a disappointment... Remember how scary the first ever RE game for the playstation was? Turning that corner and bumping into your first zombie
... dreading what's gonna be lurking behind the next door
... The movie is so far off from this, what were they thinkin'? :doubt:
I'm going back a bit, but wasn't George Romero approached to make this movie, and then 'fired' or something?

Re: Favorite Zombie flick !
My vote is the remake of Dotd, the original was good enough, but the remake has everything a zombie movie should have: gore, black humor and more gore.
The running zombies were not as good as the "dragging themselves and moaning" zombies, but it made sense..after all if a zombie is powerful enough to grab you and take a bite, why shouldnt he run ? (unless he's one of those no limbs zombies

Re: Favorite Zombie flick !
You included all of Romeros films except for Day Of The Dead, which is my favorite! You also didn't include the remake of Night Of The Living Dead which many consider better than the origional.
But I understand if you included the more popular zombie movies.
However Day Of The Dead I think illustrates best Romeros concept of man turning against one another and being more of a problem than the actual zombies.

I hold the original NOTLD as a classic movie, but I'd be one of those that think the remake is better... Tom Savini knew how to keep it 'Romero' if ya know what I mean.prozium wrote: You included all of Romeros films except for Day Of The Dead, which is my favorite! Day of the Dead will always be in my top 5, but if I was super critical I'd say that there was too much conflict between the characters. Rose really gets to me... I hate that guy, but then again, I guess I'm SUPPOSED to hate that guy. "You didn't get back in your chair!" Urgh... like Prozium said though, he's a human being more of a problem than the actual zombies themselves.
Love the way that this one makes you feel claustrophobic, and I guess all the conflict adds to this.

All praise Romero!!

Re: Favorite Zombie flick !
28 days doesnt really have 'zombies'. they are just people who have gone mad (crazies). thats why they eventually die. they are still human and need food. zombies will walk the earth forever because they dont need food they just want it

Re: Favorite Zombie flick !
I wasnt that impressed with 28 days later. It captured the atmosphere well but there were only about 10 minutes of "zombie" screen time. I like both versions of night of the living dead but the original wins it for me because of the bleaker ending.
The newzealand film "undead" is worth a view. Yiu can see the inspiration from peter jacksons early work. Speaking of which, How can you forget his zombies vs the vicar scene. "I kick ass for the lord". priceless. Shaun of the dead is a guilty pleasure for me to watch. Wasnt impressed with "boy eats girl" and avoid "raders of the living dead" and "zombie honeymoon".
"Wild zero" and "junk" arnt to bad if your in the mood for a bizaar japanese zombie flick.

I always feel that something is missing from 28 Days Later... Can't quite put my finger on it.
Those first few minutes at the beginning though are really breathtaking.
When's the last time you saw London deserted?! Amazing. After that though it doesn't quite deliver, but I still enjoy it for what it is, which is a film about 'crazies' and not zombies (as vermin16 said)...
I'll have to keep an eye out for some of the movies you mentioned, Ninth Delegate. 'Zombie Honeymoon'?
I can just imagine...

Damn i couldve swear those were zombies in 28 days later, my bad.
But its great anyway, this movie lack the normal rivers of blood you can expect from a classics.
The last scenes made me glued to my bed - virus that made people insane, but some people can be just as bruts as the infested.
