Akira

I'm shocked nobody's posted about this. This is quite possibly the best anime film of all time, and certainly the most adult-oriented (besides hentai, of course ).

This film is also great for it's animation, which is some of the best animation you'll see. Pretty good considering it was made in 1988.

Anyways, (nobody crucify me for this) this movie is my number one favorite, I love it even more than the Warriors.

Anybody else a fan of this movie?

I heard it took roughly 10 years to make, or it was Steamboy that took that long to make. Regardless, it is an amazing movie, drawn out but worth it.

I'm not sure, I can picture Akira taking that long though. There's some complicated scenes that I'd imagine took a while to draw. But yes, well worth sitting through it.

I am as shocked as you are, but thanks for posting this topic.  Akira is classic, I remember when I first saw this, I still enjoy watching it.  They used to show this on Sci-Fi channel a while back, but I get they stopped. :(

In my honest opinion, I do also believe that this is one of the best anime films of all time. I really like the flim's unique and original plot, as compared to the the repetative story lines shown in the more modern anime films or series.

I think this animation opened the door here in the U.S. for future mainstream Japanimation cartoons and manga.

Not only is it one of the best anime's, but its the corner stone of animes to break ground internationally.  The one thing about the Japanese is that their animation deals with seriousness and complex messages that go beyond everyday children's cartoons.  Thats what makes them so special.
