The Warriors portrayed one vision of late 70s New York, certainly not the city as a whole, but one perspective that, to me at least, gives you an intimate look at the city, however accurate or inaccurate that might have been. What other movies can you think of that, upon viewing, really give you a feel for the city?

I'll submit:

French Connection
Shaft
Nighthawks

Besides The Warriors being a great NY film, I'd have to go with Escape from New York, although I probably enjoyed Escape from LA better.

Mine would be,

Spiderman 1-2,
Elf,
Big,
(Dare I say it) Hitch,
King of New York,
Die Hard 3,

There are so many.

New York is a much cooler place to film than Hollywood. What I liked about the Warriors film is that it didn't have to show the skyscrapers for the viewer to get the whole NYC atmosphere.

Well I'd say about 50% of movies are shot in NY(exaggerating) where the others are in L.A or some hicktown like alabamba and sometimes washington.

I watched "Gangs of New York" last night, someone mentioned it on here. It was ok I suppose, pretty long movie and needed more action. The beginning was cool, nice big fight and one of the main gangs in the movie dresses up before battle almost looking like a bunch of hi-hats. The song thats being played before they fight is really good, anyone know what the title is? Sounds like a flute or something.

one of the most honest movies about new york teenage life that i ever seen was the controversal film kids. Its about aids and partying teenagers. There is very few movies that are bold enough to use real teenagers in a teen movie like the movie kids. Probilly because the film maker of the movie kids was only 19. Kool soundtrack.

TAXI DRIVER!!!!

THE most American film ever made!

0or any other Scorsese pic is great -- Gangs of New York (immigrants in crime), Mean Streets (first generation crime, plus the "most realistic" fight scene ever put to film), Goodfellas (second generation crime), also by Martin Scorsese -- New York New York, the King of Comedy, Who's That Knocking At My Door? and Box Car Bertha.

I haven't seen Raging Bull yet, so I'm not sure if it's set in New York or not.

And yes DeNiro is the greatest actor of our time. Too bad he's sold out on Mastercard commercials, Showtime (that 70 minute buddy movie with Eddie Murphy), Analyze This, Analyze That, Meet the Parents and Meet the Fockers, etc. A darn shame.

Raising Victor Vargas is wonderful. It is pretty realistic to the Dominican Culture of NY.
