The Sopranos is more "real" than any of the mob movies. Actual mobsters were even caught on survailence tapes discussing who the characters in the Sopranos were really supposed to portray.

Goodfellas & Donnie Brasco are bases on real life people and cases, but have been seriously ratcheted up for Hollywood. A Bronx Tale is allegedly based on characters that Chazz Palmierri knew when he was growing up.

And The Godfather is loosely based on Carlo Gambino, but the Vito Corleone character also has alot of other mobsters mixed in.... Charles "Lucky" Luciano & Joe Bonanno among them.

I was watching Part 2 yesterday. You know the very end flashback where we see Sonny again, I see what a huge influence "Sonny" has on "Tony."
Especially in the delivery of the line, "well if you don't feel that way, why don't you go out and join the army."-just like Tony would say it.
"When we see the ocean we figure we're home, we're safe."
