.....augh it just seems like so many of my fave films are being remade these days!

I was very upset that DEATH RACE 2000 is now gonna be DEATH RACE 3000 with Tom Cruise! This has been a fave of mine for over 25 years!

The, of course, THE WARRIORS ia gonna be remade....

Now I learn that another fave of mine, RACE WITH THE DEVIL is gonna be remade! What the hell??

I dread the inevitable remake of DIRTY MARY CRAZY LARRY, complete with CGI car crashes.

Just my vent :)

Although I agree with you on the whole, there are a couple of remakes that I am looking foward to:

The Amityville Horror - looks like it will be good. So far from the trailers it looks like they kept just enough from the original to be faithful and changed some of the lame shit to better represent Jay Anson's book.

The Pink Panther - I was laughing hysterically just from the little bit shown in the trailer. Steve Martin should do Peter Sellers proud.

I won't say whether the new AH will be good, but I can say the original was absolutely one of the worst films I have ever seen. Improving on that should be easy! I also just read the real father of the house blsted the new movie, calling it a bunch of bull in so many harsh words.

Steve Martin I'm not a fan of but if there's anyone who can probably do a decent Sellers it'll be him! I still think Bernadette Peters in "The Jerk" is one of the hottest women I have ever seen.

You should try and watch the trailer for the Pink Panther. Steve Martin does a fine job of portraying a faithful Inspector Cluseau. And I'm a big fan of the originals so this isn't coming lightly.

As far as Mr. Lutz, New Line was supposed to originally consult him on the AH remake, then backed out of it. While I would have loved to have the story told the way it actually happened from his perspective, you have to understand that this is hollywood and just like Jay Anson did with his original book, they will embellish and change things around to sell a better product. This is a feature film, not a documentary after all.

I know. I think all these remakes are stupid if you ask me. The only exception to me would be Starsky and Hutch. I don't think I will see that new Dukes of Hazzard movie because Jessica Simpson's version of Daisy Duke. Daisy Duke is a brunette and they should have kept her a brunette. Also, NBC is going to make a remake of V. Why don't they just pick up the story where it left off.

Let me tell ya, Hollywood is running out of ideas by remaking movies. Amittyville Horror was bad in 1979. What makes Hollywood think the new Amittyville Horror will be better?

Well, Ill give you guys this much, you were right. I saw the Amityville Horror remake at a midnight showing last night and lets say it did cause me to have trouble sleeping.....................

No, not from fear, but from the unbelievable pile of steaming crap I saw playing out before me on the big screen. Thank God I didn't have to pay for this drek, (I used the free ticket that came with the Amityville Horror DVD Box Set), or for the very first time in my life I not only would have demanded a refund, I might have sued for damages. I am so dissappointed by this that I just know this is what will happen when The Warriors remake comes out. I will wait for months with anticipation and when the big moment finally comes I'll alternate between disbelief in what I'm seeing and entertaining thoughts of gouging out my own eyes so I don't have to watch any more. I will never EVER trust a movie trailer again, as this movie's trailer was far more enjoyable. I apologize to anyone who I tried to convince that this piece of crap might be good and hope you read this before it's too late. I also think that in another thread I wrote (after seeing the trailer) that I wished the same director would do the Warriors remake. I would now rather cut out my tounge with a pair of rusty hedgeclippers than ever say that again.

I would also like to say I completely understand the ranting the past couple of days from George Lutz. The way he is portrayed in this film is a crime and I hope he sues MGM & Dimension for every penny they have for slander. The poor man is literally portrayed as a child abusing, murderous phsycopath who chops up the family dog, forces his young stepson to hold logs between his hands while he chops them in half with his trusty axe, and hides in the basement for much of the family's 28 day ordeal. That is until the final day when he is chopping through doors ala Jack Torrance in The Shining, chasing his family around with a shotgun and trying to behead his wife with a motorboat propeller.

If anything, Dimension made a better remake of the Shining than The Amityville Horror. Maybe that was the book the writers read by mistake when they vowed they were going to remain faithful to it. :x :x :x :x

Marlboro, apparently your opinion is popular--the MSN film review section gave it one star, and when I checked it out on imdb, the initial posts are somewhat split.

Now, a slightly off topic comment--I love Johnny Depp, but I'm a little nervous of his role in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, a remake of Willy Wonka. I'll see what it's about, since he's real good, but...man. That film is one of my all time kiddie favorites.

I heard that this Charlie & Ch F is supposed to be closer to the written story, and quite abit darker in tone than the first one with Gene Wilder.
which would make sense--as Gene is known for comedy, and Johnny is know for eccentricities. I am thinking it may interesting just to see the contrasts.

Thanks Mlbp, for letting me know to stay away from AmH.---if I need to see it again, I'll stay home and rewatch the first one. LOL

If you haven't already done so, I highly reccomend getting the AH boxset that just came out. It has the new special edition AH, with several new interviews from the actors, the crappy Amityville 2 & Amityville 3D, and a forth disc of documentaries from the history channel.

The documentaries alone are worth the 24.99 price of the set. :)

New writers and directors just plain suck, just like the new bands. Everything original has faded, people don't depend on their mind to write anymore, now is all about technology!

With so many writers out there it is amazing that the best ideas the movie industry can come up with is remakes.  It's less scary of a risk they figure and there's a built in number of dopes that will pay to see the remake by the title alone.  Get original Hollywood!!

Lol death race 3000, thats the funniest thing ive ever heard. I agree, the new dawn of the dead is so much worse than the original and really brings down the legacy of it.(I still dont mind the remake though)
