The Hills Have Eyes (Unrated DVD)

I originally gave a review of this flick when it came out in theaters, but the new unrated dvd was released yesterday (along with the regular R rated version), and I thought I'd give my opinion for anyone thinking of getting it.
Since they are both the same price, you should definitely go with the unrated version. It has better bonus features, and it restores all the footage that had to be cut from the theatrical version in order to get it down to an R rating from NC-17. It is more violent & gory, so if that sort of thing bothers you, stick to the theatrical version.
Changes are:
When Big Bob is set on fire, there are additional close ups of him burning and his eyes turn white.
A close-up of Lynne being shot in the head; the muzzle-flash and the direct impact.
A more explicit shot of the gun being pointed at the baby.
The rape scene with Brenda was a half a minute longer.
When Doug kills the Mutant in the neck brace, it is much longer. You can now hear his spine cracking from the blows of the pickaxe, and blood is squirting from his back for several seconds. There is also a closeup of him getting the final blow in the eye.
A more explicit and longer closeup of the Mutant eating the mother when Bobby comes upon him at the end. You see him tearing chunks out of her chest and eating them.
The final showdown between Doug & Lizard is longer. He shoots him three times now & you see blood suirting from his neck wound.

i saw this a while ago, it was kind of crazed but entertaining.
i hate being the, "i would've done this instead" guy but i just don't understand why anyone would take advice from a complete stranger? thats like me asking for financial advice from a crackhead then wondering why i lost all my money.

Of course, if anyone in any of these movies showed the slightest bit of common sense, there would be no movie to begin with.
There were several "what was he thinking?" moments in this movie. Why did Big Bob decide he needed to go sightseeing in the desert instead of staying on the main highway to begin with?
Why does Bobby run screaming like a little girl when he sneaks up on the mutant eating his mother's body instead of putting 6 shots in his head with the 9mm he was carrying?

well i saw the regular version(bootleg) but the unrated version does sound a bit more gruesome. i liked the movie so i'm sure i'll see it again sometime soon.
for those who missed this, its a pretty intense flick that will hold your interest from beginning to end...any thats saying a lot considering how many bad movies have come out as of late.

totally off topic, but... if you want to watch a movie where someone actually does what you would do if you were in their situation is Hostel... he does EVERYTHING i would do if i was there, apart from one thing.

I was so glad one of my favorite lines from the original movie was left in the remake "Baby fat. you fat. fat and juicy!" and this was the first of it's kind I've seen to actual have acts of cannibalism instead of implied cannibalism like the original and the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre

I think the original version had a slightly more credible plot. checking out a mine he had invested in seems a better reason for being in the desert than sight seeing.
Swithblade romance is one of my alltime favorite horrors, so i was looking forward to this movie. The only real dissapointment for me was there was no cameo appearence of michael berryman.
Definatly take your advice and purchase the uncut version.

The one and the same. I believe they put an english dub track for high tension. I would go as far as saying this is the best horror film of the new century. Some parts are reminicent of the first halloween film.
Im expecting really good things in the future from alexandre aja.
Speaking of halloween, i hear rob zombie is the director for the latest installment.

no no no no no no no
I downloaded this film, which was far better then spending money on the worst film I have seen this year. I was so disapointed, I can't explain constant errors in this movie and for a gore movie I was so unempressed. There was no originality I never once jumped, I knew what was coming next every time. What the hell was with the music too? Just random bits of drum kick and distoted quitar????
Why the hell did the main dude drop the shotgun next to the mutant??? - no really, why?
poor.
