Just caught this flick over the weekend and I'll give my review since it's been a while since I posted a horror movie review, although with all the new horror flicks coming out in the next couple of weeks (Saw 3, The Grudge 2, ect.) that will change. 


Overall, I thought this was even better than the remake that this is based off of. Lots of gore, lots of creepy suspense. We learn the origin of Leatherface & find out how Hoyt became the sheriff. I say if you like splatter movies you should give this a try.

The movie starts out in the 1940's, where we see Leatherface's birth mother working as a meat packer in a run down meat packing plant. She goes into labor and drops dead while on the job, and when the foreman sees the deformed baby she gives birth to he has the baby thrown in a dumpster. We then see that he is found by a very young tea lady rumaging through the dumpster looking for food. She brings the baby home and he is adopted by the Hewitt family.

Fast foward to 1969. The town is dead and has pretty much become a ghost town. The meat packing plant is forced to close down and Thomas Hewitt (Leatherface) is working there. The foreman fires him & throws him out, calling him a retard. Leatherface later returns & kills him. The local sheriff finds the body and picks up Hoyt to help him bring in Thomas. They find him walking up the road and the sheriff gets out and tells Thomas to surrender. Hoyt takes the shotgun from the sheriff's car and sneaks up behind him and kills him. He steals the car, the sheriff's uniform and badge and assumes his identity as the new sheriff. That's why his last name is Hoyt and not Hewitt.

Meanwhile, 2 brothers and their girlfriends are driving south to the military base cause the guys are off to Vietnam.  They get into a car accident while running from a biker gang trying to rob them and are "rescued" by sheriff Hoyt. He takes them captive to the house (same one as in TCM) and Leatherface has a field day. The chainsaw doeasn't come into play until the end though, and Leatherface doesn't have his full face mask like in the TCM. Actually, he looks an awfull lot like TNA wrestler Abyss.

The movie ends with Leatherface walking home down the road having killed everyone, his chainsaw resting on his shoulder.

I'd like to see this movie thanks fo the reveiw it was great.

Yeah this movie was alright. At first the bigenning was kinda boring, but the plot gets intresting at the middle of the movie. Id give it an 7.5 out of 10.

yea I just got back from the drive in tonight and I wasn't as disappointed with it as some other people who reviewed it were. the first remake was pretty good as far as remakes go but you gotta look at it like it's own movie. and this one I liked even more because it had elements from the original like the dining room scene and the girl jumping out the window

I liked the remake and I think I'll like this as well It doesn't come out here for a long time though =/

well anyway you know how they say its based on a true story. It kinda is. well i watched this thing on E news and it says: there was a killer in texas who skinned people and torchered them, but his name wasn't leatherface it was some other name and he didnt kill people with a chainsaw he used a butcher's knife.
and he only killed women for some reason. but his house is the same as the texas chainsaw massacres house. Thats about the only thing they have in common.  :doubt:

The killer's name was Ed Gein. but he lived in like Oklahoma. He was the inspiration behind TCM, Psycho and Silence of the lambs
