GR99's Fan Fiction Contest EXTRAVAGANZA!
Posted: Sun Jun 08, 2008 7:37 pm
Preamble
At the request of nazzac, I have closed his fan fiction contest and started my own. As someone with four (or five, I don't remember) fan fic competition wins under my belt, he thinks I'll get more people involved. Hopefully he's right, as I've been looking at running my own contest for a while now.
The Rules
Simple. Competitors will be matched up using a complex algorithm (probably dice rolling or something, cause I'm a nerd like that). Those competitors will then each write a story. It must be at least 500 words (that shouldn't be a problem for most people) and there is NO upper limit. I don't care if you write a damned novel, as long as it follows the rules. Each matched competitor will be given a theme. This theme can be pretty much anything, and you can handle the theme however you like.
Other rules:
-No plagiarism. I don't care if you reference something else, but if I find anyone outright copying someone else's work, not only will they be disqualified, they will be banned with my iron fist of writer's justice.
-No exceptions to deadlines without a compelling reason. A compelling reason is "My grandma died" or "I went on vacation". A non-compelling reason is "Dude, I was totally raiding in WoW when I looked at the date and..."
-Do not insult anyone for their writing. Constructive criticism, however, is fine. For example, "You suck, your writing sucks, go kill yourself" is not constructive. "I think that (some part of your story) wasn't very good, here's how I think you can improve it" IS constructive.
I implore anyone who even thinks they might be interested to join up, even if you think you aren't very good. I thought I'd lose for sure the first time I ever joined, and I ended up winning.
Judging
This is where things will be different from previous contests. In previous ones, there have usually been a team of judges, each taking one match. I have always found this to be unfair, as one judge might have a different idea of what makes up a good story than another. As such, each story will be judged by myself, that way each person is judged the same.
How do I join?
Just post in this thread. There is no upper limit to the amount of people who can join. Hopefully we get enough to run this thing.
What do I get if I win?
Internet fame, mostly. That and you're allowed to put "I won GramercyRiff99's Fan Fiction Contest EXTRAVAGANZA!" in your sig.
So get to signing up if you want to be part of this! I shall update this post with current competitors as it goes.
