chapter six
Bensonhurst, Brooklyn
1:00pm
Cassie was fed up, she and ajax had been searching around the streets of Bensonhurst for over an hour and still they had found no leads to the junkies. Cassie knew they had to find them soon as her and ajax were rising suspicion from the locals and police were starting to hang around a lot. 'they probably think we are going to start trouble' thought Cassie as she trudged behind ajax, who was strolling ahead in long strides. cassie stopped at the corner of a run-down cafe, took some cheap cigarettes from her ratty denim jeaned pocket... she lit it up and took a long drag before making it come out of her nose in a comical manner. she smirked as she noticed an angry ajax marching over to her and then stopping abruptly, he asked" how come your having a break?"
"I'm taking a break from my initiation-have you got a problem with that big guy?"
"yeah actually i have-Cassie sighed as she almost knew that he was going to start moaning- cos you haven't offered me one". Cassie laughed making her breath come out in clouds of frosty water vapor and then she remarked" ok lover boy you can have my last ciggy in the packet cos your special"
"yeah specially good-looking baby- hey how about after this initiation you come over to my place and crash"
"yeah right and yeah aint i a bit young for you- im 19 years old how old are you?"
"I'm 26 almost 27 haha your still pretty though", Cassie laughed silently and muttered"yeah right lover-boy, come on we better get on with this job before these bums get away". Ajax toked the last of his cigarette before stubbing it on the ground- cassie did the same and followed behind him.
Ajax was nearing a dark, dingy alley-way when he saw (out of the corner of his eye) a grubby looking, hippie reject selling a young black boy some crack. the man looked towards ajax with heavy, dark-circled, fearful eyes, he then took off and run-jumped over a chain-linked fence. Ajax and Cassie kept up with his fast pace as they ran through various alleyways dodging other stinking bums and junkies. Cassie stopped abruptly and explained" hey ajax i'll go to the right and you go to the left- we'll corner him", ajax nodded agreeing while heavily breathing (because of the running they had done). cassie as she had explained went right and went through another stream of grotty, stinking alleyways before she saw the bearded man cross the road- she then speedily walked after him, he didn't notice her so she carried on strolling behind him to try and find out where this junkies hideout was! after about 3 minutes she noticed they came to a small junkyard (it looked like it had been abandoned for some years now). she stopped at the large gate that had a wooden board at the top stating' martys junkyard', she did this and waited because she thought it would be stupid just to walk in and expect no other baghead to question why she was here. another reason was because she wanted to see if ajax had some how followed behind her... after 10 minutes she gave up and gingerly made her way through the gate.
Meanwhile Ajax was busy watching for anyone who looked like junkies outside of a hells angels drinking bar. He waited for 20 minutes and still he saw nothing suspicious- just half-drunken big men with bandannas, beards and leather patched vests on, he thought to himself 'i better get out of here, those cats look slightly pissed off'-so without further a do he took off and decided to go right this time to look for Cassie and he had to be quick in case the junkie man had found her out and done something to her! Cassie was hiding behind- what looked like a wrecked Cadillac, she kept peeping her head up to see if anyone was coming out of the little office shack in the middle of the junkyard. she gulped quite loudly as she saw the bearded man making his way out of the shack with 3 men behind him and they all had handguns, Cassie popped back down behind the car as she thought to herself ' shit! he must of knew someone was following him, iv'e gotta get out of here and find ajax'. She could just make out what they were all saying to each other, one of them with a husky, stoned voice (she presumed it was the bearded man) explained"so how many sales have you guys made today, how about you sniff how much have you made?"
"well boss i made about 30 sales today, hah some of them were even the young bloods of that Saracen gang".. she heard them all cackle together when sniff had said that, the boss replied " so do you guys know how many sales youse have made all together?", they all answered in unison" 150 sales". the boss then explained" good job boys, here's your cut, right boys am gonna get outta here before anyone else is on our tail". she heard the other men go back into the run-down shack and then she heard footsteps near the car- she knew they were his so she moved slowly around the car so he didn't see her. once he had went out the gates she followed him again and once she was in the shadows of the dingy, alleyways she got her flick-knife out and cornered him near a big dumpster bin, he gave out a low grunt as she brang the flick-knife to his neck and digged it in a bit. he worriedly said" hey-hey take whatever you want, whatever but just don't hurt me"
"i dont want anything you have you fucking stinky junkie-head"
" then what do you want lady?"
" i want you and your fucking disgusting crew of bagheads to leave the Saracens turf alone and sell somewhere else, you stinkin pig". she turned him around and watched as he stumbled a bit- before she pinned him up to the wall. the man looked at her shocked and he replied"ok-ok whatever, i'll do whatever just don't cut me please"! she didn't like the fact that she had to do this but then again she thought it was quite necessary, she punched him in the stomach and she let go of him as she watched him keel over and cough up some blood, she went to walk away but suddenly she screamed as she noticed a grubby, smelly hand covering her mouth.. she knew then that she was done for.
Ajax was going to give up searching for Cassie when he rounded a corner and was just about to carry on, but then he heard a lot of shuffling and grunting. he looked round the corner in horror as he saw the same junkie bearded man from earlier restraining cassie and he was making heavy breathing noises as he was trying to loosen her top and unbuckle her jeans. All of a sudden Ajax saw red as he knew the junkie was trying to rape her- he ran up the alley and charged into the junkie , crashing into the metal dumpster. He punched the junkie 3 times before trying to choke him out, he shouted aggressively " YOU FUCKIN DIRTY BUM, TRYING TO RAPE A INNOCENT GIRL... YOU MOTHERFUCKER", he just say nearly choked the man out but Cassie shook him and screamed " STOP AJAX STOP YOUR KILLING THE FUCKER". As soon as she said that Ajax got up and let go of the junkie and he replied as he was listening to the coughing and spluttering he was making " Cassie are you fucking crazy this guy just tried to-to rape you and you wanna let him go"
"no just you nearly killed him and we-we need to warn him and send him a message from the Saracens- REMEMBER?"
"oh yeah sorry". Ajax walked back over to the junkie who was know trying to drag himself away from them, ajax picked him back up by his greasy shirt-collar and warned" hey listen you greasy fuck... this is a message from our good friend edge- the leader of the Saracens. he told us to tell you keep away from his turf selling your drugs you dirty fuck and if you are seen by them again they wont spare your life like we did- they'll kill you, you dirty punk. NOW RUN ALONG" and with that he shoved the man and watched as he stumbled along promising he wouldn't be seen again. Cassie and Ajax went back to the Saracens hangout to tell edge that the mission was done and then they jumped on the subway back to coney island and talked the whole way there about how good they both did!
