My Warriors Inspired Poetry

Post by GramercyRiff99 »

I write poetry in my spare time. Today I was bored and sitting in class, and I started to think about the whole concept of nighttime being seen as dangerous. This lead me to think about the Warriors, specifically the levels of the game that take place in Brooklyn at night. This is the result.

I can't emphasize enough that this has nothing to do with the game or movie. It's inspired in part by the atmosphere of the movie, but that's it.

Without further adieu, here it is. Please critique/leave a comment/whatever. I look forward to the responses.

Creatures of the Night

What is a bustling urban metropolis by day,
Becomes a quiet urban wasteland by night.

A place where men look into the deepest,
Darkest depths of their souls.

For the darkness conceals all manner of things.

The sounds of unknown men wandering in alleys,
The sight of bored teenagers in the lamplight,
The smell of coppery blood spilling onto the street,
It's owner unknown, a victim of more senseless violence.

The trundling roar of a train,
Running over my head on an elevated trestle,
Filled with late night commuters headed for home,
The lights shining unto dark shadows for split seconds.

The denizens of the night revealing themselves.

I walk among the dregs of society.
The criminals, the pimps, the vagrants,
None trying to conceal their identities,
For the cleansing light of day will wash away their sins.

From the front step to the inside,
It is a whole other world.
Light, warmth, the people I love by my side,
But they are unaware of the things out there.

It is a different world once darkness falls,
I know it, for I have witnessed it.

I only truly live whilst among the creatures of the night.

That was deep my friend.  I know exactly what you are talking about, it was beautiful.  The darkness being an altered reality, in which the armies of the night control.  A world that makes you come face to face with your demons.  A world in which only a few can step into and understand the power of the night.  When darkness falls, it becomes a universe in which civilians no longer exist, and only the creatures of the night belong to. Some people no how to handle the dark, because it helps them relax and contemplate on their lives, thats the true power of darkness.  A world that you have to know what you are getting in to.  Great job.

I agree. The world, especially the city, seems to become a different place once the sun goes down, and the people of the day are replced by the shadows cast by the Creatures of the Night. It's truly like another world, like something of a dreamland where the imagination runs wild and one's deepest fantasies and darkest fears come to life.Pure Genius.

Adding to my original post here, here's a Shakespearian Sonnet I wrote last year for English class. It's about The Warriors. I got an A :D

Sonnet - The Warriors Recap
By GramercyRiff99

Nine gang members from the South of Brooklyn,
In the year nineteen seventy-nine,
Not knowing the trouble that they were in,
Went to the Bronx on the subway lines.

The truce was respected right down to the letter,
No brawling, no fighting, just peace and some fun,
Cyrus' plans for New York would make the city much better,
Until it was broken by a Rogue with a gun.

The blame was shifted, “Twas The Warriors!â€

Very creative, I like poems that reach into the heart and soul of the topic.  I think you explain the essence of The Warriors really well.  Good job.
