Scared Straight

[Godfather]

Anyone else ever seen this tv special, it came out around 1979 or 1980?  It was about a program where juvinile delinquent kids are taken to prison and lectured by lifers in prison.  I thought it was great.  There was a follow up 20 years later to see if it changed the kids.  I wonder what they are doing now close to 30 years after.

Well, I didn't know this program... I saw that video... I mean every bit... very interesting, I've to say!!! Great find. Indeed, I would be curious about those kids 30 years later too.
On Scared Straight IMDb page I found out that follow up... 20 years later... + other stuff (I think anyway, you already checked that page out)... and there also is a 2009 Scared Straight title.

I saw it on PBS about 20 years ago or so... if I'm not mistaken, they also used the line Ajax quoted about turning one into a popsicle. Maybe that's where he got it from, who knows?

I was a little surprised that they aired it uncut, given the profanity. This wasn't cable, it was PBS, which begs the question - how do they get away with that when network TV can't?

Probably because nobody watches PBS, not even the censors  .

I remember they showed us this show back in junior high (a little after its time).  Back then this scared the kids...........now?  I don't know if it would have the same impact.

I understand what you mean, indeed today World is a little bit more accustomed to "things" like that!!!
So, the same old theory... will they replay that show only for business??? 8)
