Mercy you are good, real good! I am guessing you've seen this movie, good. Hey I am trying to learn Brazilian portuguese, every since I saw Cidade De Deus I been trying. Oh the soundtrack is beautiful, specially Raul Seixas's Metamorfose Ambulante. I also like the band Di-Melo. ;)

" I have to return some video tapes "

Hey Lions, the best way to learn english, to me, is thru movies...
the best way to learn brazilian portuguese is thru the music. I don't know Di-Melo. and Raul Seixas was the best song writer in this country, he died in 89." Maluco beleza",and "Metamorfose ambulante" are some of his best songs. You should also take a look at bands like " O Rapa " and an artist (also dead) called Tim Maia.
If you're serious about learning portuguese, if you want... I can translate some songs for you.

Hey Mercy, I actually learned italian by listening to Eros Ramazzotti's music. I did pick-up some lines from the movie already mentioned. Also from the soundtrack I learned how to sing "metamorfose ambulante" word by word, among other songs from the album. Di-Melo was a band from the 70's, they sound disco. What is more cool than Brazilian Disco? Their song; "A vida em seus metodos diz calma", is being used in the upcoming Summer movie: "Welcome To Mexico in '86". I'll check those albums you mentioned. Another good soundtrack is, "Life Acquatic", Seu Jorge covers some David Bowie songs, they sound awsome. I am serious about learning your language. Later, I have to jump some rope and do my 1000 crunches while watching Texas Chainsaw Massacre. ;)

Storm, wuz up baby? Original all the way,....that expression about the crunches and T.C.M., appears in that movie Mercy and I are quoting from; American Psycho. Its a mixture between Ace Ventura: Pet Ditective, Wayne's World, Wall Street, Friday the 13th, Fear, and Texas Chainsaw Massacre. ;)

I don't know if you know this but, Seu Jorge played Knockout Ned in Cidade de deus. I haven't seen Life Acquatic yet, I want to, I'm a big Tennembauns fan. Seu Jorge is good, but not the most original semple we have down here. He kinda copies ( the style ) of another great brazilian musician, Jorge Ben Jor. This guy is THE FATHER of brazilian disco. You should check him out.
Also look for...Milton Nascimento, Djavan, Ellis Regina, Paralamas do sucesso, Legiao Urbana and Caetano Veloso.
