This is Just me Guessing but I think its like the RCRex thing where if you keep fighting the same gang or something like that The leader eventually pops out to take you out for hitting his gang.
Im not sure Im just guessing here.

Think the bosses are in certain missions, like the one building with the boarded up windows and doors and torn down stairs, the turnbull boss is in there, and you probably investigate thebuilding and end up getting caught and having to fight.

I saw a picture of a fat guy carrying a plank of wood and all of the warriors circiling him, I think he was a boss

I hope the Punks bathroom fight is a boss battle in itself, since the leader is fighting too. hopefully that fight is really long and intense.
