Graffiti

Post by andr3w »

Has anyone else noticed the attention to detail in the environments in the game? Granted, the character models are a little blocky (which is expected, considering it's a R* game), but someone clearly did their homework when it came time to create the environment textures in the game. Tags by the likes of IZ the WIZ, Futura 2000, Seen, Cap One, Ale and Dondi, all graffiti legends from the late 70's - late 80's (and beyond) can be seen throughout the game. Impressive!

Harley,

Depends on what you consider a good collection. I have a couple of shoeboxes full of photos (from Toronto, Europe and New York) I barely look at any more. Mostly I'm just an 70's-80's New York graffiti afficiando.

Another Graffitti Lover here,Read my Other Posting,I thought I was the only one looking at the graffitti on the wall :D
The attention to detail is impressive,I tell you!!!!
,I just saw The "SEEN" tag last night Playing it,Trying to uncuff all of those Dealers,I even saw "Futura 2000" tag next to the Phonebooth at Coney, and when I was not paying attention,I than got jump,Kick that @$$ and looked at the walls more,Even in the part of the game With the Blackout, and The Moonrunners,All of this Chaos, and I'm looking at the walls, and People are throwing things at me?? I also saw "IZ THE WIZ" tags all over the place..
SEEN is the man,and He even went ALL CITY!!!
It Sucks that Lady Pink, did not put anything up for the game,or "Zepher"

Yeah I noticed this too, that they have used real pieces from back in the day, it was the Cap One pieces that I noticed first, I've watched Style Wars too many times!!

I was doing a superb mission on the game last night, where you have to do some throw-ups in the train yard, and the Moonrunners come after you. I noticed the famous 'Wildstyle' piece from the movie, although the colouring wasnt the same.

Anyone think that Scope character (The graffitti artist) is based on Fab 5 Freddy?
Who are The Warriors, there must be some word...

Harley,

They're all good peices, it's just that I stopped taking pictures in around 2002 and lost interest somewhat. I still look at a lot of my pictures from new york and regular look at graffiti on the internet (@149 st. is a great site for those interest in old-school new york graff [www.at149st.com]).

SkateXer99: Cope and Ghost weren't going hard until the 1980's. You have to remember that IZ, Seen, Futura, Dondi (R.I.P.) are all (or would be) now in their 40's/50's. Even futura's tags in the game are based on his earlier styles as opposed to the 'handwritten' tags he rocks now.

Riff: Can't wait to see the wild style peice... Scope definately reminds me of Freddy...

In the credits I also noticed that SSUR (NYC art/clothing collective) commissioned all the original artists to do the peices for the game.

I also noticed the tag Deth sprinkled throughout the game which is interesting as he's a graffiti artist from Toronto. Members of his crew (UNC/Urban Nightmares) also have tags scattered throughout the game.
