Is it supposed to take place in the B.C. time because if you have the Ultimate Director's Cut and the other beginning when Walter Hill reads the passage, you see a battle like it was the Roman years or something!! Or is it in 1979 like the movie

?

The Acient Greek ties are because the Warriors is loosely based on the Anabasis by Xenaphon (or my syntax is funny). Which is about an army stranded on all sides in the Persian empire and they have to fight their way to the sea (When we see the ocean we think we're home, we're safe- or whatever the correct line is).

Yeah, the original story by Xenophon took place somewhere in between 431?360 BC, because that was when he was alive.
The book probably takes place when it was written, 1965.

I pretty sure it showed if you could be drafted. Wether you wanted to or not you could be drafted in the war. Draft for Veitnam=Many hippies and flower power.

Yeah it probably took place in about 1965, when it was written. It's also important to note that in the book, the meeting took place on July 4th, and when your trying to bop your way across all of NY in strange territories, hearing a firecracker or bottle rocket goin off every five minutes can have you a little extra jumpy. It's also significant that Ishmael called these gangs to band together on our nation's Independence Day.

Well actually Sol Yurick said being that it took the book a while to come out, the year might be more in the early 60's rather than 1965. But since it came out in 65, I like to pretend it is. It really captures the essence of the 60's, that why he even mentioned Muslim gangs, thats when Malcom X had a lot of influence.

Nope, they were asked for a draft card. As has been said, it shows that they're registered for the draft, which was a requirement back in the 1960s. It also worked as a handy form of ID.

Ok, thanks for clearing that up. I guess I mixed up different parts of the story. I read the book while I was deployed, so I don't really remember much of it. Thanks again though.
