Book vs Film

Which book or story from a book, that has been made into a film, was better in the book that on screen?

Mine would be Lolita and American Psycho

The Outsiders, The Stand, or any Stephen King book, for that matter.

Yeah guys, there would be a lot of books better than the movies (based on the novels )...
... 1 good example is "The Da Vinci Code" by Dan Brown!!!
I mean the book just is, IMO, a modern masterpiece... the movie... well, only a good movie!?

All "Harry Potter" Books, and I'm sure it'll be the same 4 6th and 7th movies (always books better than movies!!!).

Another is "Bram Stoker's Dracula"... the movie is a good work, but yeah the book is A W E S O M E!!! 8)

I must agree, the DaVinci Code was better in the book, than on film.

Hey guys, I was wondering: (and yeah, I know there already is a topic about by Orphen index.php?topic=6947.0)
do all of us really prefer The Warriors Book or Movie?
In that topic I told they are 2 different "things"... ok... but if it's true (I mean, what many of us are telling in this topic) that the most of books into films are better than the films , well I say, in this case, that The Warriors Movie just is better than Sol Yurick's novel!!!
Don't misunderstand me, the book is a GREAT BOOK!!!
But the movie... is [glow=red,2,300]A W E S O M E!!![/glow] 8)
What I mean is, maybe The Warriors Movie and Book are the "rule exception"!!! 8)

See ya in 5 days guys!!!
VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!  8) 8) 8)

I have to agree with The Swan...the Harry Potter series were better in books than on the screen...I was satisfied with 1-3 on screen...but not with the 4th one...I was a bit disappointed...they changed a few things around...

Other than that I must say that Rosemary's Baby was better in the book...especially the ending which I won't give my opinion because I don't want to ruin the ending

Yeah, and I don't know who read Harry Potter 6 and 7... well, I just think it'll be impossible to make great movies!!!
Yeah, too hard!!! There are a lot of answers, too many... they should make (at least, but ok they cannot!!!) "6 hours" movies!!! 8)

Hmmm theres a few that I have issues with because the books just come across so much better. The Harry Potter series as a few of you have said, Battle Royale, The Devil Wears Prada and even though it wasn't a film and the TV show came first the book of The 10th Kingdom is much better than the TV show.

Although I have not read them, I heard Fight Club and A Clockwork Orange are better than the films.

Im a fan of Robert E Howards Conan books.  The first conan film was decent, but they changed so much about his origin and used charecters from the Kull series.  The books make him more savage.

I disagree with Cowboy is cool.  Not all Stephan king stories work better on page.  Stand by me is far superior to the Body.  The body is poiled by duchamp going back to the town years later and telling us how the rest of the gang died or failed in life.  He took it a step too far, where as the movie finished perfectly.  Ive always found Stephan King has difficulty writing a satisfying ending to his books.

in my opinion the best film about organised crime ever made (and also one of the best films ever made period) is martin scorceses "GOODFELLAS".............if you have seen this film then please try and get the book,i am not doing this film a dis-service when i say that the book just blows it out of the water.the book is called WISEGUY and it is written by nicholas pileggi, the reason the book is better is that there is so much more in it about the day to day workings of the mafia and it also goes into greater detail about the lufthansa robbery at JFK airport.trust me buy, beg, steal or borrow this book ASAP.as a footnote to the film and to be fair to the incomparable scorsese he could have put the entire book into celluloid but the film would have been about 8 hours long.

Wiseguy came free on the front of a film magazine last year, i did enjoy it and it was more detailed but you can't beat the film, watched it last night on tv. Maybe if i'd have read the book first i would have thought it was better.
