Mine is The Lord Of The Rings because it was one of the first books my dad read to me. And I am also a huge fan of the moviess... I find a bit of freedom in it when i read it. Everything around me stops and i just get sucked into this whole imaginary world full of wierd and wonderfull things... In my opinion thats what a good book should do.

It's more of a series but it's the Deltora Quest series.
Why it's my favorite?
As you read more, you learn more about the main characters and you meet more characters. Additionally, I like the characters.
Things can get emotional.
The action is really fun.
The dialogue is actually interesting.
It never gets boring.
The detail is amazing.
And the various places around the "world" are really cool (It even comes with a map)
And I love the covers too.

Trainspoting, this book basicly gives us the idea of what life in the 90's is like, each char has it own personality- Renton is the only "normal" dude, Spud is dimwitted, Tommy is the good boy, Begby is a total lunatic and Sick-boy is the one looking to save it's own skin.

(almost) every chapter is written by a diffrent char and diffrent style.

Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov, riske for its plubishing and the time it was originally released. The book, even though, it has a fictional character, it is actually something that he had lived through, though he doesn't admitt it in bio. The whole Humbert Humbert dark secret and relationship with the underage Dolores Hayes (there is even a shocker in the book, which gives the immorality of the whole sutuation a worse defenition) is just out of morality. I give it 7 out of 10 in the rating.

it would have to be "i am legend" by richard matheson.
i love the way it is wrote and how it chronicles the journey of one man in his crusade against vampires.
also the ending is just killer.
the warriors book is good also.

American Psycho by brett easton ellis.

i've probably read this book over 10 times and recommended it 100 timesover.  at first, you're like WTF, this is kind of lame.  but after a slow start, you're like OMG! this guy is freakin crazy all the way til the end of the book.  its definitely not for the squimish, the writer does a great job of describing some of the horrific scenes but its really hard to put down once you get past the first 100 pages or so.  its probably my favorite book of all time.

they made it into a movie a few years back which did the book absolutely no justice...actually it was nothing like the book whatsoever, so forget the movie all together and go read the book.  it'll change your life and not in a good way.  ;)

I would have to say Not Wanted on the Voyage by Timothy Findley.  It's basically telling about things that happened on the Arc during the flood.  The Devil sneaking onboard as one of Noah's son's wives to escape the flood.  Another son who was turned blue in a marinade by a band of canibals now has high aspirations of being a warrior angel but can't seem to get his own wife into bed.  Noah and his wife basically taking up sides, as the Mrs. gets locked down below with her crew of loyalists with the animals and they basically have to do all the work, while Noah and he side stay above and get very fat and lazy (this does include the blue son).  Explainations about what happened to the unicorns and demons and why they didn't survive the flood.  How Mrs. Noah's cat being onboard is completely messing up the plan.  There's a bunch of stuff going on.

I would say my favourite book would have to be 'Hellbent' by Anthony McGowan. It is about a boy who dies by getting hit by an ice-cream van and when he goes to the gates of heaven the Angel tells him he has commited murder because he supposedly drove a boy to suicide, therefore send him to hell. The book is basically about him trying to get out of helL. The book is hilarious! By far the funniest book I have ever read. Anyway that is why it is my favourite book. You can also relate to the character as he is just like a normal person.

Ghost in Fossil Glen- it was a pageturner. I fell in love with it. It was so incredibly intresting. About this fallen girl's ghost who helps a girl off safely from a cliff if not she'd have fallen to her death. And she sticks around her since..(not giving away the whole plot :D)

mine has been The Outsiders ever since 4th grade. I can really identify with the greasers, being ridiculed for something they were born into. I recently saw some old navy commercial that Madras are making a come back

Soc: you know what a greaser is? white trash with long greasey hair
Ponyboy: you know what a soc is? white trash with mustangs and Madras

and the book got me interested in poetry by Robert Frost

Easily "On the Road" by Jack Kerouac.  It is about freedom, love, and the open road.  It was a time of innocence in America (1950s) at the time where you could thumb your way across the country and meet fellow travelers looking for kicks.  It is the most important novel of the Beat movement.
