LOL, unfortunately it is not related to The Warriors but I might be on a National Geographic programme about landslides and tsunami, as one of three students who went looking for "the next big one" I guess you could say!

How much did they cut out of your interview War Chief? Does it sound a lot different in the printed version than what you said to them?

There was about 4 to 5 times as much, but that's editing. Here's your exclusive uncut interview:

I'm 22 and I am just finishing my geology masters degree at the University of Southampton, UK. My passion for the movie ?The Warriors? started a few years ago when I watched the film for the first time on TV. At first I was hesitant to watching it as I don?t usually watch films that were made before I was born! However, I was soon captivated by the story, exciting fight scenes, and plethora of different gangs and fell in love with the movie. The first thing I did when it finished was to go straight on the Internet and order the video and CD soundtrack and then started to look for fan sites dedicated to the movie. I found a few good sites about the movie but felt that it deserved better, so I made my own! I tried to capture every aspect of ?The Warriors? on the website, but the greatest addition was the forum which now has over 7000 posts. It?s amazing to see what other people found in the movie, which I hadn?t previously seen. It?s a great community of fans who share the same enthusiasm for the movie as me, and it?s great because I get sent photos, posters and memorabilia which has helped the site grow to the enormity at which it now exists.

The foundation of "The Warriors" is that it is the ultimate survival adventure story. What makes the movie unique is that it isn?t an adventure through some far flung corner of the world, but through downtown New York. ?The Warriors? not only has a strong story, but strong characters. There are nine Warriors, each with very different personality traits, from Ajax the fighter, to the diplomatic Fox, Swan the born leader, and Vermin, who just moans a lot. The movie is distinctive from other gang movies since each gang is dressed in their own bizarre costumes. There are the dungaree-wearing Punks, the High Hats who look like street mimes, The Boppers in purple glittery suits and of course, the infamous bat-wielding Baseball Furies.

Iconic moments in the film have made ?The Warriors? such memorable movie, including Cyrus? big speech to all the gangs in New York, and Luther (leader of The Rogues) when he chants ?Warriors, come out to playeeeyaaay,? whist clanging bottles together on his fingers. It?s a combination of the great story, surreal setting of nocturnal New York, curious-looking gangs, iconic moments, and the atmospheric soundtrack by Barry de Vorzon that has given the movie its cult status, and attracted so many fans from across the world.

Something that has beguiled me somewhat is the extent to which the movie had changed from the original script. Swan for example was to be captured by a homosexual gang before escaping and leading The Warriors home, and the character Vermin was scripted to be killed. It was only because the actor who played Vermin (Terry Michos) decided to make his character more comical that Walter Hill decided to keep him in the movie. It has also been revealed that during filming there were threats from real gangs, and on some occasions the sets got trashed by angry gangs because the film crew had invaded their turf.

A few years ago I had an e-mail from Rockstar Games, and they told me that they were making a video game based on ?The Warriors?, and they wanted to know what my top ten moments were from the film so they could include them in the game. From what I?ve seen so far, they have done a pretty good job! I have also been contacted by Skip Chaisson who is the executive producer of ?The Warriors? remake just to say that it was a pleasure to see so many devoted fans on my site, and that he and everyone working on the film, extremely respect the original movie.

I also get e-mails from fans who send me photos of very cool looking Warriors parties, where everyone dresses up as gang members from the movie. Then there are the die hard fans who travel from all across the world to take the pilgrimage from The Bronx to Coney Island, and I?m sure that some time in the future, I?ll probably be doing the same!

I?m such a huge fan of ?The Warriors? because it always leaves me wanting more. Whilst watching the credits to Joe Walsh?s classic ?In The City?, I wonder what The Warriors did next, what happened to Ajax, and whether there were more Warriors back in Coney Island. I went on to make the web site to try and answer these questions, and to form a collection of everything related to the movie. This has proved successful for other fans who have come looking for answers, and because it provides a place for them to share their thoughts of the movie. What with the release of ?The Warriors? video game, a remake of the movie, the upcoming special collectors edition DVD and a series of action figures, the long lasting appeal of the movie is very apparent and will satisfy fans like myself who have wanted more from ?The Warriors?.
The one and only!
