The Warriors book chat topic
Well, I finally got around to re-reading my book, and was wondering if anyone else would like to talk or discuss it with me. I hope this topic hasn't been done, but bare with me! And this topic will contain spoilers...
We'll start with something simple: What were your feelings on the characters? Who did you like, or not like?

Well I did not identify with Poppa Arnold, the way I did Cleon.
ANd I thought Lunkface was very lame, came off as very stupid, non intelligent.
Hinton and Hector, and The Junior seemed better characters to follow, but the plot line of the story really didn't esp. if you compare to movie.
There was definately 1 leader, and even then, the boys followed each other like sheep, whichever one was taking the lead at the time.
Even though I know Hector was the designated leader after PA, he didn't really lead as much as just made sure they stayed together as a group.

I loved the girl character that inspired Mercy, she was way more trouble. She used her sexuality more and taunted both gangs way worse than in the film. She was really a product of her enviroment, and fed off of it as well as contributed to it at the same time. I always wondered how much more trouble she would have made if she went with Dominators.

That part with the big chick and Lunkface, Bimbo, and Hector really bugged me. One drunk, fat chick getting these three tough (Lunkface was that 6' tough guy!) gang members?
And I liked Bimbo, 2nd in command, serious kind of guy. Papa Arnold I didn't like too much either; he's dumb enough to get himself caught and beaten while telling his Family to stick together. I couldn't help but like Lunkface also; gotta love that nickname, and he was the fighter. Granted, he was a sex fiend idiot, but hey, everyone has their faults, right? Maybe being a guy has something to do with it; I can see why you don't like him.
Edit: Noticed I had written that Arnold was killed...

Dewey reminds me of Vermin, But i think my fav part and sad [art is when Hinton Knew he wasnt the gang leader anymore. its really welle written, saying how he wish he had a GF, ect. and when his brother is talking to him about how stupid gangs are. it realy showed how much of the gang was a family. its really better the 2nd time you read it.

About the nurse-lady, that's what was both good and bad about the book, the characters are all wimps, so to speak. they're all like the Orphans.Cochise wrote:That part with the big chick and Lunkface, Bimbo, and Hector really bugged me. The encounter with the nurse is to show just how inexperienced they are. They're just kids! They don't have a clue about the real world, and when they get scared they act like kids all confused, and their first instinct is to run away.

when i first read the book i was like, man i'm glad they weren't like that in the movie. I did not like the gang in the book too much. It would be cool if a book based on the screenplay came out tho...

I just finished reading the book and Im glad I read it. I was really shocked at the very violent part of when the Dominators stabbed and killed the guy that was talking down to them and then immediately after all of them having sex with the "mercy" type character. I thought wow this book really took a turn for the worse, but the more I read I kinda forgot about it and began to enjoy the book again. The ending kinda had me confused when the girls at the candy store said Arnold had made it back a few hours ago, I was under the impression that he had died in the park when the Delancey Thrones(Riffs) got ahold of him. How did he escape? How did he get home? What a great book, wish their was more to read.

Ohs, whenever someone says that, I recommend The Bag, also by Yurick, a kinda sequel cause it has Hinton and cyrus' character in it, and it goes from youth violence to the hard life of the lower class. It's a good read if you enjoy the book for it's story and not wishing it was more like the movie.

the gang may have pounded on Arnold cause he looked at Ismael's dead face, but they weren't acting to kill him, and with the cops coming from everywhere, there wasn't time or reason, so once he was beat up-they left him, and since he was alone, he just crawled his way home, and didn't worry about finding the others.
